SPIRO — The NCAA Tournament's Final Four ended Monday night with Kentucky beating Kansas to win the national title.
The 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament saw its Final Four — the four teams who are in the winner's-bracket semifinals — get half formed here on Monday.
The Poteau Pirates handled the Pocola Indians 12-3 to end the three-game festivities on Monday night.
The Spiro Bulldogs had little problem with the Heavener Wolves with a 16-3 victory to join the Pirates in the winner's-bracket semifinals.
The day began with the Wolves run ruling the Arkoma Mustangs 12-0.
PANAMA — The Cameron Yellowjackets and the Wister Wildcats are two wins away from making it to the championship game of the 2012 LeFlore County Tournament.
The ’Jackets got past the Panama Razorbacks 4-1 in the final game at this site on Monday night, while the ’Cats beat the Leflore Savages 15-6 earlier in the day.
Both the Hogs and the Savages got wins before suffering their losses. Panama blanked Bokoshe 14-0 in three innings, while the Savages defeated the Howe Lions 11-1.
When one looks at the 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament bracket, one of the biggest things which is noticed is that there are only 11 teams in the field and not the customary 13.
The reason is quite simple.
This year's tournament host was Arkoma, but due to lack of facilities and staff members to staff two sites for the first two days, it had to give up on the chance to be the host school.
Last fall, the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers won the Class 4A Regional Tournament over the Poteau Lady Pirates on Poteau's home field to keep the Lady Pirates from making state.
Albeit in slow-pitch softball, the Lady Pirates avenged that loss — and in a big way — as they swept a doubleheader from the Lady Tigers by scores of 11-4 and 9-0 on Monday afternoon.
In the opener, the Lady Pirates trailed 3-2 in the second inning, but scored twice in the second inning and three runs in the third inning for a 7-3 lead after three innings.
STILWELL — The Heavener Wolves will return to district play at Fort Gibson on Friday with some momentum.
The Wolves won the Stilwell Tournament on Friday with a 5-0 win over the host Indians in the title game.
The Wolves won their first two games, beating Wagoner 3-0 and Tahlequah 2-0 on Thursday to reach the finals.
In the championship game, five different players scored for the Wolves (6-0). In the first half, goals by Rey Diaz, Miguel Alcantar and Luke Culpepper put Heavener ahead 3-0.
Jesus Benitez and Neftali Bravo each scored goals in the second half to ice the game.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Carl Albert State College softball team had a good weekend as the Lady Vikings had a doubleheader sweep against Arkansas Baptist by scores of 10-1 and 12-8.
The Lady Vikings (10-24) had its home twinbill against archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College rained out Tuesday afternoon. The two teams will try again at 2 p.m. April 17.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 p.m. Thursday in a home doubleheader against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.
There will be a Poteau OK Kids Prep Team tryout at 6 p.m. Thursdsay at Town Creek Park.

SPIRO — The Pocola Indians and the Leflore Savages staved off elimination in the 2012 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament with wins on Tuesday afternoon.
The Indians defeated the Bokoshe Tigers 12-0, while the Savages downed the Arkoma Mustangs 11-1.
Before the Indians and the Savages could meet, rain came and washed out the game.
The contest will be played at 11 a.m. Wednesday as Tuesday and Wednesday slate of games has been changed by Tuesday's rain.
