LEFLORE â€” The 2014 fast-pitch softball season got underway Monday for the Leflore Lady Savages in fine fashion as they swept the Clayton Lady Bulldogs by scores of 12-0 and 6-0.
CAMERON â€” The 2014 fall baseball season got started on a down note for the Cameron Yellowjackets as they were swept by the Oktaha Tigers by scores of 15-12 and 9-7.
The Whitesboro Bulldogs also were to have opened their season in what was to have been a three-way but did not participate. The â€™Dogs opened the season Tuesday afternoon at home against Clayton in a battle of Bulldogs.

When your team doesn't score, it's going to be hard to win. That ill fate led to spoiling the 2014 fast-pitch softball season opener for the Poteau Lady Pirates on Monday afternoon.
Wister pitcher Hunter Gibson struck out 10 batters and retired 14 of the final 15 batters to end the game as the Lady Wildcats blanked the Lady Pirates 2-0 to get the 2014 season started for both teams.
Tickets still remain for the Poteau Piratesâ€™ football season opener in the Hootenâ€™s Kickoff Classic against Alma, Ark., at Fort Smith [Ark.] Northside High School at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4.
Tickets for adults and students cost $7 per person, while pre-schoolers will be admitted for free.

2014 Poteau Bandit Football League and cheerleading registration is currently underway.
Forms may be picked up at Poteau City Hall. Cost is $35 per participant.
The Allstate Insurance team comprised of Lyle Whitworth, Steven Sockey, Ricky McConnell and Daniel Caldwell won Fridayâ€™s 2014 Main Street Matters Golf Tournament at Choctaw Country Club, The team had a score of 18-under par.
Coming in second place a shot behind (-17) the championship team was the team representing C2 Supply, who were represented by Mike Fisher, Duane Roper, Gary Brown and Roy McClary.
Hannah Ward (women) and Mark Burnett (men) were the closest to the hole for their respective genders.
Fall ball is truly here as the 2014 high school fast-pitch softball and fall baseball seasons will get going next week, with most teams beginning Monday. The schedule â€” at least that which I have for up through Aug. 18 is listed at the end of this column.
Editor's Note: Due to Friday's rain showers, today's schedule of games have not only had their times changed, but all games will now be played at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. Here is the new schedule.
