The Carl Albert State College athletic program saw one team and four individuals receive high honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The Lady Vikings softball team was among those junior colleges in the country named as Academic Teams of the Year for having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better. The Lady Vikings' cumulative GPA was 3.27.
Two LeFlore County baseball players, Poteauâ€™s Ben Klutts and Wisterâ€™s Scotty Gibson, will get to be a part of history as they will get to play in the first-ever Oklahoma State Games next week at Oklahoma State Universityâ€™s Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater. They will be joined by Red Oakâ€™s Lane Grogan and Cody Muncy.
The four local players will be part of the Southeast team that will play three games over two days. The Southeast team will play the Oklahoma City team at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, then play twice on Wednesday â€” vs. the Tulsa team at 11:30 a.m. and the Southwest team at 7:15 p.m.
Jeff Rogers and Perry Reed of McClain Surveying and Josh Munoz and Dana Scott of First National Bank were the winning foursome in Mondayâ€™s Poteau Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament that took place at Wolf Ridge Country Club.
It looked like the only Arkoma Lady Mustang graduating senior who was going to play hoops at the next level was Tiera Brumfield, who signed with Eastern Oklahoma State College earlier this year. However, that all changed Monday morning.
Arkoma guard Shaylea Whisenhunt signed a letter of intent with Murray State College, located in Tishomingo, in a signing ceremony inside the Arkoma Gym.
EDMOND â€” Two local softball players, Heavener's Makayla Cheek and Pocola's Madison Hudkins, and three local umpires, Dale Lowrimore, Bill Holt and Wendy Kennedy, participated in the 2015 Slow-Pitch Coaches Association All-State Games on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts.
