Arkoma girls, Cameron boys lose in Class A Regional Tournament; Another loss by either team ends season

WILBURTON — The Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Cameron Yellowjackets suffered their first postseason losses Thursday night at the Class A Regional Tournament at the new Wilburton Gym.
The Wright City teams both proved too much as the Lady Lumberjax downed the Lady Mustangs 55-50, while the ’Jax stung the ’Jackets 57-36.

Bokoshe girls playing for regional championship tonight, beat Braggs to advance to Class B Area Tournament

BOYNTON — The Bokoshe Lady Tigers accomplished two goals Thursday night at the Class B Regional Tournament.
First, they defeated the Braggs Lady Wildcats 46-34 to advance to tonight's regional title game in Stroud against the Deer Creek-Lamont Lady Eagles at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Secondly, by reaching tonight's regional championship contest, the Lady Tigers (18-7) has automatically qualified for an appearance in next week's Class B Area Tournament at Cleveland, Okla., since both the regional champion and runner-up advance from the regional tournament.

Carl Albert basketball teams split home games with Redlands

Hannah Ware's career-high 23 points and six blocked shots proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings as they came away with the season sweep of the Redlands Community College Lady Cougars in a 61-56 win Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Behind 15 points from Joy Williamson and 50-percent shooting from the field, the Redlands Cougars claimed the 68-50 win over the Carl Albert State Vikings in the second game.

Poteau softball duo signs with CASC Lady Vikings; King, Benson following sisters' footsteps

Two years ago, it was Katie Odom. Last year, it was Katie Pierce. Thursday morning at Poteau High School, that number increased to four — the number of softball players who have signed with Carl Albert State College in the last three years.
Poteau Lady Pirates Natalee King and Briley Benson signed letters of intent with CASC.
And it doesn't stop there. Both signees' sisters, Emily King and Breanna Benson, also played with the Lady Vikings.

Carl Albert Softball Festival set Saturday, Sunday at PARC

When the 2012 Carl Albert State College softball season was made, a special event became part of it — its own two-day softball festival.
The Carl Albert Softball Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex (PARC).

Leflore teams stave off elimination at Class B Regional Tournament

STROUD — There will be at least one more day of basketball for both Leflore High School basketball teams.
Thursday afternoon at the Class B Regional Tournament, the Lady Savages and Savages each won their elimination games over Carney. The Lady Savages rolled past the Lady Bulldogs 58-35, then the Savages chewed up the ’Dogs 76-56.

Whitesboro boys stay alive, beat Battiest

STRINGTOWN — The Whitesboro Bulldogs took the first step of a three-step process to get to next week's Class B Area Tournament in Kingston.
The ’Dogs defeated the Battiest Panthers 42-32 Thursday afternoon at the Class B Regional Tournament.
The Bulldogs will play at 8 p.m. tonight at Moss High School near Holdenville in the consolation semifinals against Moss. That winner will then play for the consolation championship — and a trip to next weekend's area tournament — at 3 p.m. Saturday, also at Moss High School. Tonight's loser will be eliminated from the playoffs.

4A, 3A, 2A District Tournaments set tonight, Saturday

The basketball postseason has arrived for the large high schools in LeFlore County as district tournaments will begin tonight and Saturday night.
The Poteau Lady Pirates and Pirates will be in the Class 4A District Tournament against Hilldale Saturday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. The girls' game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 8 p.m. All four teams will advance to Thursday's Class 4A Regional Tournament at Roland.

Poteau, Talihina matmen seek state berths at regional tournaments; Pirates going to Cleveland, Golden Tigers to Inola

All the hard work the Poteau Pirates and Talihina Golden Tigers wrestlers have done this season has led to this weekend. The season has boiled down to today and Saturday as they will try to send as many wrestlers as possible to next week's state tournaments.

ODWC to answer questions, concerns regarding Lake Wister crappie fishing

Anglers are concerned about the population status of crappie in Lake Wister.
Fisheries biologists sample crappie to monitor abundance trends as well as age vs. growth.
There is no data to suggest a problem exists or is looming.
Crappie growth is excellent with most individuals reaching 10 inches by age two and abundance trends are onthe rise.
However, management staff will hold a public meeting to provide anglers with current sampling data, answer questions,and address concerns regarding the fishery.
