HEAVENER — It seems appropriate that with all the rain showers LeFlore County experienced this past weekend that a team called the Thunder enjoyed a banner run at the 2012 OK Kids Coach-Pitch Regional Tournament at Blues Park.
The Heavener Thunder went through undefeated to win the regional tournament as they routed the Stilwell Warriors 17-4 in four innings in Sunday afternoon's title game. The game was to have been played on Saturday, but the game was rained out and rescheduled for Sunday afternoon.
PANAMA — The Poteau Outlaws OK Kids Midgets baseball team got to the title game of the 2012 Regional Tournament Saturday afternoon at Willie Darneal Field, but the bad news was they ran into the Stilwell Indians.
The Indians pulled away late to down the Outlaws 10-0 in five innings to win the title, and make this week's state tournament in Elk City.
The Outlaws reached the title game with a 6-1 win over the Asher Indians, then outlasted the host Panama Boomers 15-13 on Friday.
PRESTON — The season came to an end for the Spiro Reds in the 2012 OK Kids PeeWee Regional Tournament as they lost a slugfest to Sallisaw by a score of 23-20 in Friday night's loser's-bracket semifinal.
The Reds ended the season at 42-15.
The game was tied at 18-18 after three innings, but Sallisaw broke the tie with a two-run fourth inning to take a 20-18 lead. The Reds were never able to get the lead after that.
WISTER — The Stilwell Angels OK Kids prep baseball team, representing Adair County, came to town Thursday and let the two LeFlore County teams in the 2012 OK Kids Prep Regional Tournament, the Cameron Elite and the host Wister Wildcats, get any wins on Day 1.
The Angels opened the day with a 10-6 win over the Elite, then handled the ’Cats 5-3.
In the win over Cameron, Stilwell had a 3-0 lead after an inning.
After the Elite cut the deficit to 3-2 after two inning, the Angels broke the game open with a seven-run third inning to take an 11-2 lead.
Thanks to a complete-game victory by Jarred Williams, the Poteau Pirates OK Kids Midget baseball team lived to play another day in the 2012 Regional Tournament at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Williams struck out 10 batters as the Pirates used a big sixth inning to get past the Vian Dawgs 11-6 Thursday night.
PANAMA — The Panama Boomers OK Kids Midget baseball team was hoping to get to tonight's championship game of the 2012 Regional Tournament at Willie Darneal Field. If they do, the Boomers will have done it the hard way.
The Boomers lost 5-2 to the Stilwell Indians in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final. The loss put the Boomers into Friday night's loser's-bracket final, which they had to win to make it to today's 4:30 p.m. title game.
