NEWLY UPDATED SCHEDULE: Several of Monday, Saturday, Friday games canceled due to rain, wet fields; Carl Albert's home softball doubleheader canceled; Lady Vikings hit road today

Sunday's rain canceled a lot of Monday afternoon's baseball and softball games due to wet fields.
The Cameron-Panama softball game and Leflore's softball game at Clayton were all canceled on Monday due to wet fields. The Cameron-Panama game will not be made up, while no make-up date for the Leflore-Clayton game has been scheduled at this time.
Howe's softball action at Red Oak was canceled because the Lady Eagles joined Heavener to form a three-way at McCurtain on Monday.

SPIRO — The Spiro Bulldogs ran their record to 3-0 with a 14-3 five-inning, run-rule victory Saturday afternoon over the Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside Grizzlies.
Trailing 3-0 after the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs broke the game open with a four-run first inning and a pair of five-run innings in the second and third innings to take a 14-3 lead.
Cameron 6, Hackett, Ark., 4: Friday afternoon in Hackett, down 4-3 after three innings, the Yellowjackets scored twice in the fifth inning and once in the sixth to get the come-from-behind victory.

Carl Albert baseball team splits Saturday home twinbill with Arkansas Baptist

The Carl Albert State College baseball team split its home doubleheader with Arkansas Baptist Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field. The Vikings took the opener 8-4, but lost the nightcap 5-2.
The Vikings will begin two days of back-to-back home doubleheaders with Kirkwood, Iowa at Ival Goodman Field this afternoon. The two teams will play a noon twinbill today, followed by a 12:30 p.m. Wednesday doubleheader.

SHAWNEE — Behind Kyndall Dudley's 22 points and 18 points each from Connor Brooks and Dalen Qualls, the third-seeded Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets dominated the 10th-seeded Carl Albert State College Vikings in their 102-68 win in the 2012 NJCAA Region II Tournament semifinal game Saturday night at Oklahoma Baptist University's Noble Complex.
The Vikings did make some noise on Friday afternoon as they shocked the second-seeded Connors State College Cowboys in their 71-64 win.
Saturday night's loss ends the Vikings' season at 7-24.

Muldrow boys beat Pocola Indians Friday afternoon

MULDROW — While the Pocola Indians baseball team went on the road to face the Muldrow Bulldogs, Pocola's bats seemingly did not as the ’Dogs downed the Indians 7-1 on Friday afternoon.

Heavener soccer teams sweep season openers

HEAVENER — Last year, the Heavener Wolves soccer team was a very young but quick and talented team. The Wolves again should be considered on of the elite teams in the district, and the showdown between the Wolves and Poteau Pirates later in the year could be for the entire ball of wax.

The Poteau Junior High Boys Golf Invitational Tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at Choctaw Country Club.
Besides the host Pirates, the Heavener Wolves are scheduled to participate. It is not known if any other LeFlore County teams will be in the field.

Edgar named Region II Coach of the Year; Mountaineer players also receive conference honors

WILBURTON — Eastern Oklahoma State College’s Men's Basketball Coach Scott Edgar has been named the NJCAA Region II Coach of the Year.
“It’s an honor any time you’re named Coach of the Year by your peers,” Edgar said. “It could not be accomplished without a tremendous team and that includes our players, our administration and our community.”
Three players for the eighth-ranked Mountaineers also received honors, which are voted on by the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference coaches.

Mother Nature big winner on Thursday as baseball, softball games, Poteau's season-opening track meet rained out; Poteau's Saturday 3-way moved to a one-game contest with Checotah today, while Poteau, Heavener, Pocola, Wister softball games today canceled

The good news was that no LeFlore County baseball or softball team lost their games Thursday afternoon. But they didn't win them, either.
Thursday's rain postponed all of the county baseball and softball games, as well as Poteau High School's season-opening track meet at Fort Smith (Ark.) Southside High School.
Baseball games rained out Thursday were Heavener at Poteau, Cameron at Pocola, Howe and Battiest at Leflore, Union Christian, Ark., at Arkoma, Hartford, Ark., at Panama and Spiro at Tulsa Union.

Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service.
