Busy with Bandit League; Balloonfest, barbecue next weekend

October 14, 2011

It was a rough week for my Poteau third-grade Bandit League football team, but it's been a fun time.
Three of our four teams will be in action Saturday in Stilwell, with the sixth-grade game beginning at 2 p.m., followed by the third-grade contest at 3 p.m. and the fourth-grade game at 4 p.m. There will not be a fifth-grade contest this week. The sixth-graders will put their undefeated streak on the line as they have not lost a game in their Bandit League careers.

Last week, the Poteau Pirates got a big District 4A-4 win as they celebrated homecoming with a 24-0 win over the Stilwell Indians at Costner Stadium.
“Especially after the last three weeks, we needed it (the win over Stilwell),” Poteau Coach Jeff Broyles said. “And I liked the way in which we did win. We really felt like we really dominated the game. I was pleased.”

OKLAHOMA CITY — There were many naysayers out in the Oklahoma high school softball world which doubted the Panama Lady Razorbacks would be the one team holding the Class 2A State Tournament championship trophy Saturday afternoon at Hall of Fame Stadium. But holding the trophy they were.
The Lady ’Backs, behind the pitching of Taylor Eaves, blanked the Oktaha Lady Tigers 1-0 in the Class 2A State Tournament title game.
