The 2015 Spring Sports Guide was in Saturday's edition of The Poteau Daily News with the season-preview stories on all the spring high school teams of LeFlore County as well as composite schedules for the county in all five sports — baseball, slow-pitch softball, golf, soccer and track.
With some sunshine over the last couple of days, there should be some baseball and softball played this week, although it’s Spring Break.
There’s going to be a lot of baseball around here this week, thanks to the Eastern Oklahoma Shootout that will take place Wednesday through Friday at multiple locations in LeFlore County.
Here's the complete week’s schedule, including next Monday’s games:
Muldrow at Poteau, 1 p.m.
Keota at Pocola, 4:30 p.m.
Wendell Barnhouse and Kristen Keith preview game 3 of the 2015 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship in Kansas City featuring the 3-seed Oklahoma Sooners against the 6-seed Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Two years ago, the Talihina Golden Tigers made the Class 2A State Tournament, but lost to Latta in the quarterfinals. The three seniors, Bryar Humphreys, Christian McClain and Alan Lockhart, had a good feeling they would return at least one more time to the Elite 8. That happened Saturday night when they beat Preston in the Class 2A Area Tournament finals at the Wilburton Gym.
The Howe Lady Lions and the Spiro Bulldogs lost their respective area tournament's consolation finals Monday night.
The Lady Lions fell to Quinton in the Class 2A Area Tournament consolation finals in Wilburton, while the ’Dogs lost for the second time in a week to Sequoyah-Tahlequah in the Class 3A Area Tournament consolation finals in Quinton.
Complete coverage of these games will be in Wednesday's edition.
