TALIHINA â€” It was a super Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium for the Talihina High School basketball teams as they swept the titles in the Class 2A District Tournament.
The Golden Tigers routed the Rattan Rams 52-31, while the Lady Golden Tigers got past the Savanna Lady Bulldogs 50-39.
SPIRO â€” The postseason parade started off just fine for the Spiro High School basketball teams as they swept Westville to win the Class 3A District Tournament on Friday night at the Spiro Multipurpose Gym.
The Lady Bulldogs handled the Lady Yellowjackets 66-42 in the opener, then the â€™Dogs stung the â€™Jackets 78-42 in the nightcap.
HEAVENER â€” The Heavener Lady Wolves basketball team won the Class 3A District Tournament on Friday night at the Heavener Gym, clawing the Idabel Lady Warriors 68-47.
However, the Warriors returned the favor in the boys' title game, holding off the Wolves 47-44.
Great defensive pressure in the second half was the key as the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings forced the Western Oklahoma State College Lady Pioneers into 30 turnovers in their impressive 70-53 road win Friday night in Altus.
Getting 21 points from Stirling Thomas and 53.6 percent shooting from the field proved to be the difference for the Pioneers in their 80-56 win over the Vikings in Friday's second game of Friday's doubleheader.
SHAWNEE â€” The Monroe Eagles basketball team became LeFlore County's second state runners-up this school year.
The Eagles lost 36-21 to Stilwell's Rocky Mountain School in the state title game of the Organization of Rural Elementary Schools [ORES] Division III State Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Shawnee.
The Eagles, who won the 2014 LeFlore County Junior High Tournament last month, reached the finals with a 56-48 victory over El Reno Darlington on Friday night.
Two Eagles made the All-Tournament Team, Reid Frasher and Kolton Foster.
KIOWA â€” The Arkoma Mustangs won the Class A Regional Tournament consolation championship with a 53-41 victory over the Clayton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs reached the consolation finals with a 55-52 overtime win over the Dewar Dragons in the consolation semifinals Friday afternoon.
SALLISAW â€” The Panama Lady Razorbacks and the Pocola Indians won titles in the Class 2A District Tournament on Saturday night, both beating the host Sallisaw-Central teams.
The Lady â€™Backs rallied from a five-point deficit in overtime to down the host Lady Tigers 56-53, while the Indians defeated the host Tigers 65-54.
The Carl Albert State College baseball team did not let the chilly weather Sunday afternoon deter the Vikings from getting a home doubleheader sweep over the East Central University junior varsity Sunday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings took the opener 9-5, then had to score late to take the nightcap 7-6.
The Vikings will return to action in a road doubleheader beginning at 12:30 this afternoon against the University of the Ozarks JV in Clarksville, Ark.
