Howe teams sweep Panama for district titles after Lady Razorbacks, Hogs take care of Porter Consolidated on Friday

HOWE — The Howe High School basketball teams took the first step on the easier paths to the Class 2A State Tournament by winning district titles Saturday night at the Howe Gym.
In the Class 2A District Tournament, both Howe teams beat Panama, the Lady Lions winning 67-24 and the Lions holding on for a 41-39 win.
The Lady Razorbacks and Hogs reached the title game with Friday night wins over Porter Consolidated. The Panama girls won 45-32, while the boys posted a 69-59 win.
All four local teams will be in the Class 2A Regional Tournament later this week at Talihina.

TUPELO — Blake-Blagg Tidwell’s buzzer-beating 3-point basket from 20-plus feet away propeled the Whitesboro Bulldogs to a 38-36 victory over the Chattanooga Warriors in the title game of the Class B Regional Tournament on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs will meet the Red Oak Eagles at 8 p.m. Friday in Colbert for the area championship and a trip to state. However, the loser will have one more shot at state in the consolation finals at 8 p.m. Saturday.

CASC basketball teams split home games with NOC-Enid; Carl Albert squads entertain Western this afternoon

Behind great defense and going 34-of-40 [85 percent] from the free-throw line proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 77-65 win over the 13th-ranked Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets on Sophomore Night  on Thursday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Shooting 52.7 percent from the field proved to be the difference for the Jets in their 86-83 win over the Vikings in Thursday night's nightcap.

CASC softball team goes 1-1 at home with Coffeyville; Lady Vikings play Tuesday afternoon against Bacone JV

The Carl Albert State College softball team split its home games Thursday afternoon with Coffeyville, Kan.
The Lady Vikings rallied in the opener for an 8-7 victory in eight innings, but they dropped the nightcap 8-6 in another eight-inning contest.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 1 p.m. Tuesday in a road doubleheader against the Bacone College junior varsity in Muskogee.

WILBURTON — The Carl Albert State College baseball team scheduled an improptu match-up with its archrivals, the Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers, Thursday afternoon, but the Vikings lost 9-6.
The Vikings will return to action at noon Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Paris, Texas, at Ival Goodman Field.

BENNINGTON — If there was some background music playing during Thursday night’s winner’s-bracket semifinal of the Class B Regional Tournament, that song might have been, “Who Let the Dogs Out,” since the games were won by a pair of Bulldog teams.
The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs defeated Pittsburg 55-48, then the ’Dogs routed the Panthers 65-36.

Arkoma girls, Cameron boys reach consolation finals at Class A Regional Tournament; Keota girls stay alive on opening day, but Mustangs see season end

The Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Cameron Yellowjackets each split their first two games of the Class A Regional Tournament, thus reaching this afternoon’s consolation championship games at Kiowa.
The Lady Mustangs stayed alive Friday afternoon with a 66-47 rout of the Haileyville Lady Warriors in Kiowa after falling 59-57 Thursday night to the Rattan Lady Rams in Antlers.
Arkoma will play the Keota-Boswell winner at 1:30 this afternoon in Kiowa for the regional consolation championship, and a trip to the Class A Area Tournament next week at Ada High School’s Cougar Athletic Center.

Leflore, Red Oak boys reach tonight’s Class B regional finals in Wilburton as well as RO, Buffalo Valley girls; Lady Savages beat Eagletown after losing to BV; Bokoshe girls win, but Tigers eliminated

The Leflore Savages, the Red Oak teams and the Buffalo Valley girls assured themselves of at least one more week of basketball Thursday night.
The Savages routed the Buffalo Valley Buffaloes 53-35 Thursday night in Calvin, while the Eagles got past the Eagletown Eagles 51-44 Thursday at the Wilburton Gym in the Class B Regional Tournament championship semifinals. The Savages and the Eagles will meet at 8 tonight at the Wilburton Gym for the regional title, but both teams will advance to next week’s area tournament at Colbert.

Poteau basketball seniors ready for final postseason; Lady Pirates, Pirates play Friday night at Muldrow in Class 4A District Tournament

The Class 4A playoffs will begin Friday night for the Poteau High School basketball teams. The seniors are ready.
“I’m excited that we’ve made it to this point,” said senior Tabitha Waldrop, whose Lady Pirates will face the homestanding Muldrow Lady Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. “I’m not going to play basketball in college, but I can’t wait to see what we can do in the playoffs — and I can’t wait to see what the girls are going to do next year.”
