When you play your last high school football game, you give the best you got. That’s what four area players did Friday night in the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Football Game at Lee Snider Field at Spartan Stadium at Bixby High School. And for two it was indeed their last.
Poteau’s Jace Pitchford and Carlos Aguilar, along with Arkoma’s Tanner Sweeten and Talihina’s Jordan Blue made their share of contributions as members of the East team in its 23-14 defeat of the West.
Spiro’s Knifeis Carter was all over the floor while leading the East with 16 points Thursday night in the Oklahoma Coaches Association Small School All-State Boys Basketball game at the Oral Roberts University Mabee Center in Tulsa.
Carter made some big plays that consisted of a stretch of steals and rebounds, helping his team in a 28-7 fourth-quarter run en route to a 72-56 win against the West.
Bryce Deatherage of Red Oak also was in the game. He scored two points with his only basket coming on a first-quarter lay-up.
With the arrival of August means the arrival of fall ball on the diamond with the 2014 fast-pitch softball and fall baseball seasons beginning Aug. 12.
That means the first sports special section of the 2014-15 season will come out soon — the 2014 Falll Diamond Tab, which will be published on Aug. 16. Therefore, I'll begin to work on that at the end of next week.
As always, the Panama Preseason Softball Festival will be Thursday through Saturday as a prelude to the season. The schedule will be listed below.
