Poteau Pirates win home opener over Campus Colts

September 20, 2014

The style of play of the Campus Colts from Haysville, Kan., was predicated on a fast-pace no huddle. When it works it’s fine, but when the other team is making stops the score can get ugly. The Poteau Pirates simply wore out the Colts as they pounded them into submission and won the game by the score of 66-26 in Friday night’s home opener at Costner Stadium.

Heavener girls nip Wister, Panama gets past Spiro to make Monday's LeFlore County Tournament winner's-bracket final; championship game slated for 7 p.m., if-game at 8:20 p.m.

September 20, 2014

The seeding for the 2014 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament almost held true — almost.
Top-seed Panama beat No. 4 Spiro 4-1 in one of Thursday's late night championship semifinals in Panama.
However, the same could not be said of second-seeded Wister, who was knocked off 2-1 by third-seeded Heavener in the other semifinal.

Heavener Wolves look to bounce back with road win against Muldrow

September 19, 2014

The Heavener Wolves will conclude their three-game road trip to begin the 2014 football season at 7:30 tonight against the Muldrow Bulldogs, coached by former Poteau assistant coach Rob Johnson.
The Wolves (1-1) ended up not getting to play their originally scheduled home opener last week against Vian due to the track still being under construction at Harvey Stadium. So, they paid a visit to the Wolverines and lost 35-0. However, first-year Heavener coach Sam Hembree said the Wolves did not play all that poorly.

Spiro Bulldogs to pay a visit to Haskell Haymakers

September 19, 2014

Spiro coach Chris Bunch said that, while he was glad his Bulldogs won their season opener 47-40 against Stilwell on Sept. 5, he said that the game was a nailbiter because his team didn't take care of business like they should have.
The good news in last weekend's home-opening 35-14 win over Muldrow at McClain Stadium was he believed his team took care of business — at least in the first 24 minutes.

Jody Ray — the marriage counselor

September 19, 2014

The older I get, I'd like to think I'm getting a little wiser. If you're married and live with a woman, you learn that there are rules men have to follow:
1. Always put the toilet seat down.
2. There's a special way to fold towels.
3. “Fine” is not good.
Save the world, recycle.
God bless our troops and our veterans.
Go, Pokes next Thursday against Texas Tech
Go Packers against Detroit.
Have a great weekend.
