Heavener beats Panama, Bokoshe on opening day of county tournament; Hogs, Tigers go 1-1; Arkoma eliminated

HEAVENER — The 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament hosts, the Heavener Wolves, did what they had to do make sure they played in Tuesday night's winner's-bracket semifinals.
The Wolves edged the Panama Razorbacks 5-4 after routing the Bokoshe Tigers 16-0 on opening day.
Both the Hogs and Tigers split their two games, both beating Arkoma. The Razorbacks downed the Mustangs 14-0 while the Tigers beat the Mustangs for the second time in less than a week — winning 6-3.

Spiro handles Leflore, which outlasts Talihina to get tournament started

SPIRO — The 2014 LeFlore County Tournament's top seed, the Spiro Bulldogs, opened the tournament Monday night with an 18-6 victory over the Leflore Savages.
The Savages got this site of action started by outlasting the Talihina Golden Tigers 12-11 in nine innings.

Pocola boys beat Wister after Wildcats knock off Howe Lions

WISTER — Last week, the Wister Wildcats run ruled the Pocola Indians on their home field. When it came time for the rematch in Monday night's opener of the 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament, the Indians avenged the loss with a 9-3 victory on the Wildcats' home turf.
Wister opened the night with a 2-0 win over the Howe Lions.

CASC baseball team suffers weekend home losses to archrival Eastern, Rose State; Vikings will entertain defending national champion Murray State College on Thursday afternoon

It was a rough end to the month of March for the Carl Albert State College baseball team. The Vikings saw their losing streak reach eight games as they lost 11-1 to archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College on Sunday at Ival Goodman Field after being swept at home Saturday by Rose State College by scores of 6-1 and 10-1.
The Vikings will welcome defending national champion Murray State College to town for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ival Goodman Field.

Cameron boys win consolation title at Crowder Tournament on Saturday

CROWDER — Their stay at the Crowder Tournament started rough, but things ended on a bright note for the Cameron Yellowjackets baseball team.
The Yellowjackets edged the McAlester junior varsity 7-6 on Saturday to win the consolation title. The ’Jackets stayed alive with Friday victories over Muldrow 1-0 and Kiowa 3-2.
The Panama Razorbacks, the other local team in the field, lost its second game of the tournament and of their season Friday as they fell 10-1 to the McAlester JV to be eliminated from the tournament.

Lady Wolves remain unbeaten; Pocola girls go 1-1 in Oktaha Tournament; final day rained out

OKTAHA — The Heavener Lady Wolves remained undefeated on the season with three wins Friday in the Oktaha Tournament. The Lady Wolves downed Sallisaw 9-1, beat the host Lady Tigers 15-6 and routed Hulbert 12-0.
The Pocola Lady Indians only got to play two games on Friday due to rain, outlasting Warner 16-10 but losing 11-3 to Muldrow. Their game with the Tulsa Union junior varsity and all of the tournament games on Saturday were rained out.

LEFLORE — Garrett Singleterry's grand-slam home run in the fifth inning propelled the Leflore Savages to a 4-1 win over the Pocola Indians on Friday afternoon.
Down 1-0 in the fourth inning, Singleterry's grand-slam homer put the Savages ahead 4-1 after five innings.
Pocola's Tanner Francis put the Indians, losers of two straight, ahead 1-0 in the top of the inning.
Heavener 10, Turpin 2: Saturday at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, the win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Wolves. No more information on the game was reported by press time.

It's County Tournament Week — no foolin'; Slow-Pitch County Tournament next week at PARC

Despite it being April Fool's Day today, I'm not foolin' around when I say that it's LeFlore County Baseball Tournament Week as action got underway at four sites on Monday.
If that's not enough for you, next week will be the 2014 LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament, which will begin Monday at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex. The bracket for next week's tournament will be in Saturday's paper.
The 2014 LeFlore County Baseball Tournament isn't the only tournament going on this week.

CASC softball team sweeps pair from NOC-Tonkawa; Lady Vikings visit Rose State College this afternoon for a doubleheader

The Carl Albert State College softball team celebrated the last weekend of March by getting a home doubleheader sweep of the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks on Saturday.
The Lady Vikings outlasted the Lady Mavericks 13-12 in the opener, then run ruled the visitors 12-4 in six innings in the nightcap.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 this afternoon in a road doubleheader against Rose State College in Midwest City.
