Ruel “Lucky” Bufford Brand Jr.

Lucky Brand, 62, of Spiro died July 8, 2014, in Spiro.  He was born Nov. 28, 1951, in Lake Charles, La., to Ruel Bufford Brand Sr. and Vernice (Fontenot) Brand.  He was a long haul truck driver. 
He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Richard Brand.
Lucky is survived by his wife, Opal of the home; a son, Rocky and wife Lanita Brand of Texas City, Texas; daughters, Tasia Brand of Poteau and Carissa and husband Brandon Hendrix of Wilburton; a brother, Daniel Brand of Sulpher, La.; six grandchildren; many more family members, friends and loved ones.

Jimmie Lou Morgan Nicewander

Jimmie Lou Morgan Nicewander was born July 18, 1927, to Viola Elizabeth Wilson Morgan and Onis Berry Morgan in Wister. She went to be with her Lord on July 7, 2014.
Jimmie is survived by two daughters, Donna and husband Dr. Jim Riemer of Pawnee and Linda and husband Monty Stidham of Del Rio, Texas; two sons, Dean Nicewander of Oklahoma City and Van Nicewander of Wister; five grandchildren Major Christopher Riemer and wife Tara; Staff Sgt. Daniel Tooker and wife Sarah; Rachel, Billy and Jonathan Tooker; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, W.C. and Gary Morgan.

LeFlore County Detention Center Public Trust Meeting Scheduled for Wednesday

The LeFlore County Detention Center Public Trust regular business meeting has been scheduled for Wed., July 9, at 1 p.m. in the County Commissioner's Office in Poteau.

On Agenda for discussion will be the detention center's report and public appearance.

The Trust also will go into executive session pertaining to the following lawsuits:

A) Raymond Larry Nichols Case
B) Duane Sweeten Case
C) Denay Burris Case
D) Felicia Carshall Case
E) Elvis Thacker Case

Followed by any other business not known of at time of posting.

Wyatt Steven Ray Edwards, infant son of Candice (Hendrix) Thompson of Cameron and Andrew Edwards of Panama was born and passed away on July 4, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Wyatt is survived by his parents; three brothers, Cole Thompson and James Thompson of Cameron and Kayden Edwards of Poteau; two sisters, Patience Thompson of Cameron and Hailey Edwards of Poteau; grandparents, Hattie Hendrix of Tulsa, Steve and Jeanne Hendrix of McCurtain, Ray and Karen Edwards of Panama; and great-grandmother, Nettie McGee of Fort Smith.

Edward Henry Cobb, 71, of Poteau died Saturday, July 5, 2014, in Poteau. Edward was born Oct. 10, 1942, in Enid to John Henry and Ruth Marguerite (Carlisle) Cobb. He was a mechanic. Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edward Lee Cobb; and one sister, Ellen Fauver.
He and Betty Fenwick were married on July 30, 1960.

Grace R. Huss, 91, of Poteau died Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Poteau. Grace was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Williams to Martin L. and Frances A. (Moore) Stankewitz. Grace was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Grace was a provider for DHS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garthur Dorsey Huss, on April 5, 1998; three sisters and three brothers.
