Poteau’s slow start dooms Pirates in Thursday night’s loss to Alma

September 6, 2014

The Poteau Pirates did the one thing they feared doing the most, and that was to get behind early against the Alma [Ark.] Airedales in Thursday night’s Hooten’s Classic at Mayo-Thompson Stadium at Fort Smith Northside High School. It seem like they were down 15-0 before the last cord of the national anthem had faded into the ozone layer.
Alma scored two touchdowns on an extremely short field in the opening period.
Too, the Pirates looked good on two drives of 15 and 14 plays, but when the Pirates got close to Alma’s end zone, they lost their rhythm. Also, Alma played strong defense.

Arkoma too much for Bokoshe

September 6, 2014

The latest installment of the LeFlore County 8-man rivalry went the way of the visiting Arkoma Mustangs as they corralled the homestanding Bokoshe Tigers 46-0 Friday night at Tiger Stadium in a game ended by the mercy rule with 9:54 left in the third quarter.
The Tigers started on offense but their drive stalled after four plays, and the Mustangs took possession of the ball at the Bokoshe 33-yard line.
The Mustangs ran the simplest of base plays as Landin Duzan followed his trap block all the way home for a 33 yard TD. Dakotah Roam added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
