VIDEO: Car catches fire at Cameron Schools

No one was injured Monday [Dec. 8] evening after a car caught fire in the parking lot of Cameron Schools. Hogeye and Poteau Fire Departments responded.

Poteau Board of Educaton to discuss bond at meeting

December 8, 2014

In a regular Poteau Board of Education Meeting, the board will consider and take action on a resolution authorizing the calling and holding of a special election to be held in the school district to authorize the issuance of general obligation bonds for updates, computer labs and improved facilities.

Other agenda items include:

*Take action on the employment of Stephen H. Mcdonald and Associates Inc. as a financial consultant for the school district.

*Approve or not approve a request from the Poteau High School Wrestling Team to compete out-of-state.

Rivals Pocola, Panama split pair

PANAMA — Archrivals Pocola and Panama split their high school basketball games Thursday night at the Panama Gym. The Lady Indians won the girls game 60-46, but the Razorbacks prevailed in the boys contest 55-50 for their first win for new coach Wes Tackett.
In the girls game, the Lady Indians jumped out to an 11-7 lead after a period en route to a 28-14 lead at halftime.

CASC teams split Thursday’s home games with Seminole State

Behind five double-figure scorers and great second-half defense, the Carl Albert State College Vikings won 80-68 over the Seminole State College Trojans on Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Getting 20 points and 11 rebounds from Whitney Stotler proved to be the difference for the Lady Belles in their 78-66 win over the Lady Vikings.
The CASC teams will be off until the spring semester when they return to action Jan. 6 for road games against Coffeyville [Kan.] Community College. The women’s game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.

Poteau teams suffer losses to McAlester in basketball openers on Friday night

It was a rough start to the 2014-15 basketball season for Poteau High School on Friday night at McAlester High School’s Brumley Gym.
A fourth-quarter spurt by the host Buffaloes helped get the game tied, then they dominated the overtime period en route to a 58-49 win over the Pirates to spoil the debut of new Poteau boys coach Todd Hackler.
The Lady Buffaloes were too much for the Lady Pirates as they beat Poteau 58-32.

Wister teams make consolation finals at Pick and Shovel Classic

HARTSHORNE — Both Wister High School basketball teams will have a chance at a plaque this afternoon.
Both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats won their consolation semifinal game Friday night in the Pick and Shovel Classic. The ’Cats beat Oktaha 61-40, while the Lady ‘Cats defeated Canadian 46-27.
Both teams will play in the consolation finals this afternoon, the girls at 1:50 p.m. and the boys at 3:10 p.m.

Heavener girls fall to Oden in championship semis of Gary Ford Invitational; Lady Wolves playing for third place this afternoon

HARTFORD, Ark. — The Heavener Lady Wolves let one get away from them Thursday afternoon in the championship semifinals of the Gary Ford Invitational, losing 53-51 to Oden, Ark.
The Lady Wolves will play for third place at noon today.
