Buzzer-beating 3-point basket propels Whitesboro boys past Chattanooga to win Class B Regional Tournament, but Lady Bulldogs fall in title game; Bulldogs face Red Oak Eagles for area championship, trip to state Friday at Colbert

TUPELO — Blake-Blagg Tidwell’s buzzer-beating 3-point basket from 20-plus feet away propeled the Whitesboro Bulldogs to a 38-36 victory over the Chattanooga Warriors in the title game of the Class B Regional Tournament on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs will meet the Red Oak Eagles at 8 p.m. Friday in Colbert for the area championship and a trip to state. However, the loser will have one more shot at state in the consolation finals at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Man arrested after speeding away in sheriff deputy's cruiser

DOW, Okla. (AP) — Police say that a man who was hand-cuffed from behind drove away with a sheriff deputy's cruiser during a traffic stop.

The McAlester News-Capital (http://bit.ly/1LhRva6 ) reports that 33-year-old Temple Clancy was hand-cuffed and placed in the front passenger seat of Deputy Johnny Jenkins' cruiser while officers searched his car. Clancy gained control of the cruiser, and sped away.

Winter Advisory in effect until 6 p.m. Monday

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 p.m. this evening. The advisory affects LeFlore County, as well as the other following counties:

OKFUSKEE...OKMULGEE...PUSHMATAHA...CHOCTAW...
PITTSBURG...SEQUOYAH...MCINTOSH...MUSKOGEE...LE FLORE...LATIMER
AND HASKELL. IN ARKANSAS...CRAWFORD...SEBASTIAN AND FRANKLIN.

Snowfall causes closings in county

As snow blankets the county Sunday afternoon, roads are getting slicker and closures are being announced.
The LeFlore County Courthouse will be closed Monday.
Road conditions are expected to worsen as about 4 inches of snow are expected through Monday afternoon.

CASC basketball teams split home games with NOC-Enid; Carl Albert squads entertain Western this afternoon

Behind great defense and going 34-of-40 [85 percent] from the free-throw line proved to be the difference for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 77-65 win over the 13th-ranked Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Lady Jets on Sophomore Night  on Thursday at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
Shooting 52.7 percent from the field proved to be the difference for the Jets in their 86-83 win over the Vikings in Thursday night's nightcap.

CASC softball team goes 1-1 at home with Coffeyville; Lady Vikings play Tuesday afternoon against Bacone JV

The Carl Albert State College softball team split its home games Thursday afternoon with Coffeyville, Kan.
The Lady Vikings rallied in the opener for an 8-7 victory in eight innings, but they dropped the nightcap 8-6 in another eight-inning contest.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 1 p.m. Tuesday in a road doubleheader against the Bacone College junior varsity in Muskogee.

WILBURTON — The Carl Albert State College baseball team scheduled an improptu match-up with its archrivals, the Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers, Thursday afternoon, but the Vikings lost 9-6.
The Vikings will return to action at noon Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Paris, Texas, at Ival Goodman Field.

Whitesboro teams sweep Pittsburg in Class B Regional Tournament; Lady Bulldogs, ’Dogs play Chattanooga for title Saturday night, but both will play in next week’s area tournament

BENNINGTON — If there was some background music playing during Thursday night’s winner’s-bracket semifinal of the Class B Regional Tournament, that song might have been, “Who Let the Dogs Out,” since the games were won by a pair of Bulldog teams.
The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs defeated Pittsburg 55-48, then the ’Dogs routed the Panthers 65-36.
