Dorthy Faye Moore, 85, of Panama died Thursday, April 3, in Fort Smith, Ark. Dorthy was born April 10, 1928, in Denning, Ark., to Clarence E. and Clara Bell (Mayfield) Russell. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion and lifetime member of the VFW. Dorthy lived the motto, â€śWe are people helping people." She volunteered at the Panama Senior Center for many years where she was instrumental in acquiring their first van. Dorthy also was the inspector for the Panama Election Board for many years.
Elizabeth â€śLibbyâ€ť Lafferty, 60, of Panama was born Aug.10th, 1953, in Little Rock, Arkansas and died March 31, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
She is survived by three sons, Shawn Lafferty and wife Dawnna Vincent of Panama, Jeff Lafferty of Panama, Charles H. Lafferty, Jr. of Oklahoma City; her father, Sunny Knuckles of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Rachel Williamson of Lone Oak, Ark., Roseanne Cook of Mississippi; brother, Sammy Cook of Little Rock; two grandsons, Michael Cody Lafferty and Collin Dean Lafferty; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dr. Robert â€śBobâ€ť Fields, 60, of Wister died April 2, 2014, in Poteau. He was born April 29, 1953, in McAlester, to James William and Elsie Mae (Mankin) Fields. He was a proud Red Oak Eagle, a graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and owner of Okie Blue Sky Cattle Co. and SouthEast Animal Health and Hardware. His most fulfilling accomplishment was being "Papa" to his six grandchildren.Â
Bob is preceded in death by his father, James Fields, and a son, Brad Fields.
Charlotte â€śDianeâ€ť Frizzell, 59 of Howe died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Howe.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Poteau Valley Baptist Church in Poteau. Burial will be in Howe Cemetery. Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau, is handing arrangements.
Johnathen Don James Edward Thacker pleaded guilty Friday to first-degree murder, escaping a possible death sentence for the 2010 slaying of 22-year-old Briana Ault.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors accepted a sentence of life without parole for Thacker and dropped a forcible sodomy charge against him.
Thacker's brother, Elvis Aaron Thacker, 26, still faces trial and a potential death sentence in the case.
The Arkansas brothers were charged in September 2010 after the Fort Smith, Ark., woman's body was found in Pocola.

MANSFIELD, Ark. â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates track team came in second at the Senior Tiger Relays on Tuesday. The Lady Pirates scored 110 points, finishing behind host Mansfield (128 points).
In coming in runners-up, the Lady Pirates had two relay teams set meet records.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs were fifth with 52 points, while the Heavener Lady Wolves were sixth (47.5).
Arkoma's Jasmin Roberts got her team's five points as she was fourth in the discus.
On the boys' side the Pirates got their five points from Mason Jones, who was fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€” Last weekend, martial arts students from Oklahoma Combat Sports, Ethan Carey, L.J. Butler, Garrett Butler and Bret Butler, competed in the 2014 Oklahoma State BJJ Championships. This was these athletes' first-ever state championships appearance.
Carey won two gold medals, L.J. Butler took home a gold and two silver medals, Garrett Butler won two bronze medals and Bret Butler took home a bronze medal.
Their coaches are Steve Young and Duke Nobles.
The Dakota McCoy Memorial Scholarship Bass Tournament will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Wards Landing on Wister Lake. The entry fee is $40 per angler. The top three placers will receive a cash payout, and they will have a â€śRam Beast of the Weekâ€ť big bass sponsored by Martin-Dunn Dodge.
There will be a cookout sponsored by PriceCutter, with The Community State Bank â€śPit Masterâ€ť Michael Bailey cooking the food, after the tournament concludes. There will also be drawings for various prizes.
