There will be some changes on the basketball sidelines when the 2014-15 seasons get going in late November/December for Pocola High School.
For starters, Poteau boys coach and former Indian player Scott Nelke will coach the Indians, who had been coached by Eric Ladd.
However Pocola fans, have no fear. Ladd will still be around as he will now coach the Lady Indians after three-year coach Carrie Covey will step down to only coach fast- and slow-pitch softball.
Billy Leaptrot will now get his chance to live out his dream — coaching.
Leaptrot will be the new Panama Lady Razorbacks basketball coach, taking over for Dennis Wright who became the girls coach at Sallisaw-Central High School.
“I just graduated in May from UAFS [the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith], so this will be my first coaching job,” Leaptrot said Tuesday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse on his first day to see his new team. “I’m ready to hit the ground running.”
