Dr. Ted Kondos has been serving the dental needs of Poteau and the surrounding communities since 1981. Many of his patients have been with his practice since he began with Dr. Ken Hammond 32 years ago.
“I am thankful for all the patients who have visited my practice and have accepted me and my family into the community. My wife, Shaun and I have raised our three children here and have been delighted to be a part of Poteau,” Kondos said.

The LeFlore County Health Department is soon to move into it’s new multi-million-dollar facility located on Dewey Avenue in Poteau.
The current health department was built in the 1960s and has been constantly declining over the years since the department took possession of the building in 1991. The building was originally a nursing home and its dilapidated state was the driving force behind the new facility.

A new health facility that provides services to insured and non-insured patients regardless of their income has made it’s home in Poteau.
The Health and Wellness Center, located at 204 Wall St., Suite A, is a branch of the Stigler-based company and opened its doors locally on October 15, 2012. The plan to find a home for a center in Poteau began several years ago.

MUSKOGEE — For the second straight spring, the Poteau Lady Pirates softball team came up just short in making state.
The Lady Pirates suffered an 8-0 loss to the host Muskogee Lady Roughers in the title game of the Class 6A Regional Tournament on Wednesday to see their season end at 22-14.
The Lady Pirates began the day with a 15-3 mercy-rule victory over the Bixby Lady Spartans before losing to Muskogee 12-5 in the winner's-bracket final.
The Lady Pirates got past the Broken Bow Lady Savages 4-3 in eight innings to reach the finals.
The Carl Albert State College softball team experienced both joy and sorrow in Tuesday afternoon's home doubleheader against Connor State College.
After Alli Eales' walk-off, two-run home run in the seventh inning of the opener gave Carl Albert a 3-2 win, the Cowgirls avenged the loss in a big way in the nightcap with a 13-2 victory.
Of all the accolades that have come to Carl Albert State College baseball coach Mark Pollard over his three decades, there was one which still eluded the program — until now.
For his defensive prowess last season, Red Oak sophomore pitcher Dwight Camp was named one of nine Golden Glove Award winners in NJCAA Division II baseball.
HEAVENER — What looked like a playoff-clinching victory on a rainy, cold Tuesday night at Harvey Stadium for the Heavener Wolves soccer team turned into heartbreak.
A late goal by the visiting Fort Gibson Tigers forced overtime, and then they won it in overtime by a score of 2-1 to dash any playoff aspirations the Wolves had.
The girls contest was all Lady Tigers, as No. 2 Fort Gibson beat the Lady Wolves 8-1.
INOLA — The Poteau Lady Pirates track team placed second with 68 points, well behind meet champion Vinita (172.5 points), in Friday's Inola Invitational. Spiro's girls scored 12 points to come in 16th, while Talihina was 22nd with four points.

Youth season was last weekend, and several area kids took advantage of the opportunity.
I do have to mention that turkey season opened up Monday for us older folks. I am looking forward to heading to my lease at Clayton to chase some gobblers around.
My good buddy Dan Carter is going to join me and Butch Parks for a little camping and hunting on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully, I will have some pictures and stories next week.
