Two LeFlore County high school softball players, Heavenerâ€™s Savannah Steelman and Pocolaâ€™s Taylor Farley, will participate in their final competitive slow-pitch games of their careers Saturday afternoon as they will be in the 2014 Oklahoma Slow-Pitch Softball Coaches Association All-State Games at the University of Oklahoma.
Farley will be on the East team in the Middle School All-State Game at 1 p.m.
Steelman will be on the East team in the Large School All-State Game at 3 p.m.
The Wolf Ridge Junior Golf Clinic will take place every Wednesday for the next three Wednesdays at Wolf Ridge Country Club.
The clinic is open to youth ages 5 and older.
The clinic for ages 5 to 17 will be from 4 to 5 p.m. every Wednesday for the next four weeks. Cost is $10 per golfer per session.
The clinic for ages 18 and older will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday for four weeks. Cost is $20 per golfer per session.

The 10th annual â€śHooked on Fishin'â€ť Tournament took place Saturday at Long Lake Resort. There were 44 boats with youth who caught 93 fish that weighed a composite 168.83 pounds. Each fish caught averaged 1.82 pounds, but only five limits were caught.
In the age 8 to 12 division, Isaac Rogers won the title with an even 13 pounds, followed by Shea Brown (9.05 pounds), Wyatt Holt (8.86), Jacques Adams (8.45) and Connor Maxwell (8.33). Amber Taylor had the big bass winner for the division with a 4.59-pound lunker.
Christina Louise Cannon, 54, of Spiro died Thursday, June 12, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.Â

Ava Janel Key, 81, of Poteau died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in Poteau.

R&R Animal Chiropractic in Shady Point will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. today [June 12]. They are located on U.S. Highway 59.
Also Cavanal Tire and Auto will host a ribbon cutting today [June 12] at 11:30 a.m. at their new business across from Walls where G&G Tire previously was.
The Poteau Daily News and the Poteau Chamber of Commerce is hosting "Meet the Candidates" tonight [June 12] at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau at 7 p.m.
Sixteen county, state and national candidates will take the stage during a public forum to answer questions about current issues.
The event is free and open to the public.
For the second straight day, the Carl Albert State College Vikings baseball team signed another out-of-state player.
Logan Crouch from DeKalb, Texas, signed a letter of intent in a signing ceremony Tuesday afternoon inside Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. The Vikings signed Farmington [Ark.] High School product Jacob Thompson on Monday afternoon.
