CASC baseball teams splits season-opening twinbill against University of the Ozarks JV; Vikings will play home openers this weekend against Barton County, Kan.

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — The Carl Albert State College baseball team split its season-opening road doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks junior varsity Tuesday afternoon.
The Vikings took the nightcap 14-4 after losing the opener 5-2.
The Vikings will play their home openers Saturday and Sunday at Ival Goodman Field against Barton County, Kan. Saturday's twinbill will begin at 11:30 a.m., while Sunday's doubleheader will start at noon.

Verda Johnson, 82, of Albion died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, in Talihina.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the War Cry Ministries Church under the direction  of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina.

Rylee Shealynn Warren

Rylee Shealynn Warren, 5 months, of Wister died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015.

She was born Sept. 11, 2014, in Talihina to Robert Lane and Kimberlyn Grace (Hobbs) Warren.

Survivors include her parents; sister, Aubree Warren; brother, Jagger Warren; grandparents, Jason and Crystal Hobbs, Tracey Hobbs, Robert Warren, Taylor Warren, Carolyn Lenoir and John Lenoir; numerous great grandparents; other relatives and loved ones.

Leota Jean Hensley

Leota Jean Hensley, 58, of Keota died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, in her home.

She was born Oct. 13, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., to Chester and Leota Carty. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Marty Hensley; and a brother, Steve Carty.

Mildred Louise (Adams) McDonald

Louise McDonald, 84, of Poteau died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, in Fort Smith, Ark.

She was born Oct. 4, 1930, in Kully Cha Ha (Cameron) to Rich and Masona (Sanderson) Adams. She was a homemaker.

Louise is preceded in death by her parents and beloved step-mother Purnie (Garrett) Adams, as well as her husband, Joe Earl McDonald.

James Larry Thomas

James Larry Thomas, 66, of Monroe died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, in Monroe.

James was born March 25, 1948, in Waldron, Ark., to James Henry and Madine Vivian (Duncan) Thomas. He worked at Baldor Electric for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; mother-in-law, Beulah Miller; grandchildren, Aiden and Kimber Burns.

Ninth annual Junior He-Man PPK Competition took place Saturday

We had a full house for the ninth annual Junior He-Man Punt, Pass and Kick Competition on Saturday at “The Jody Ray Sports Complex.”
In the age 13-16 division, Micaela Bickford won with 32 points to earn $100, with Javan Self second (31 points, $75) and Lane Denis third (25, $50). Bickford won the Most Improved Athlete award and the Read-and-Recognition award, while Dennis won the “Got-A-Man-Down” Award as well as winning the tire throw. Self won the field goals title.
