EDMOND â€” Panamaâ€™s Stephanie Barcheers was on the winning team in the 2014 Oklahoma Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Associationâ€™s Small School All-State Game on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts.
Barcheers, a Carl Albert State College signee, reached base once via a walk out of her three plate appearances as the Small East beat the Small West 11-2. The game was originally scheduled to be played at the University of Oklahoma, but OUâ€™s field was too wet.
James â€śIrbyâ€ť Wright, 89, of Denton, Texas, died Friday, June 6, 2014, in Denton. Irby was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Spiro to Jim and Betty (Turney) Wright. He operated a fishing tackle retail store. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Irby was a member of the Open Range Cowboy Church in Krum, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Betty Wright; and wife, Bobbye Wright, on June 17, 2007.
Tristan Clayton Larue Austin, 21, of Heavener, formerly of Pocola died June 6, 2014, at home in the loving arms of his sister, Ashley.
The Poteau First United Methodist Church, Heavener Masonic Lodge No. 154 and the Poteau Masonic Lodge No. 46 are hosting a benefit Spaghetti Dinner and pic auction Sunday, June 15 at the church located at 109 S. Harper in Poteau.
Proceeds from the dinner will help with medical costs as Dana Lee battles cancer.
The dinner is from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is $6 per plate for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.
The Poteau Kiwanis Club's "Learn To Swim" program is open to children of all ages. Classes will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday starting June 10 and concluding June 27.
Classes will be one hour in length and will be held at 9, 10 and 11 a.m.

Two Heavener Wolves soccer players, Miguel Alcantar and Rogelio Serrano will represent their team in Thursdayâ€™s Class 4A All-State Game in Muskogee.
The Wolves finished third in the district behind champion Poteau and runner-up Fort Gibson.
The Wolves made the playoffs, but lost 5-2 to Catoosa in the opening round.
The Poteau Kiwanis Club's "Learn-to-Swim Program" will begin its three-week run next week at Twyman Pool.
Class sessions will take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The final week of the program will be June 24, 26 and 27.
Each session will be one hour in length beginning daily at 9, 10 and 11 a.m.
There is no cost to participate, and the program is open to boys and girls of all ages.

Wayne Hamby, 90, of Poteau died May 29, 2014, in Poteau.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Evans and Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Poteau.
Panama Lady Razorback softball player Stephanie Barcheers will get one last high school softball game under her belt before playing the next two springs for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings.
Barcheers will be on the Small East team in Saturday afternoon's Oklahoma Fast-Pitch Softball Coaches Association's Small School All-State Game at 1 p.m. at the University of Oklahoma.
