Emergency crews are working a two-car accident on U.S. Highway 59 south of Poteau near Weaver's Meat Market.
Injuries have been reported.

Poteau RB, LB among magazine’s ‘Top 100 Players to Watch’ in 2015; same publication has Pirates preseason ranked fourth in 4A

“Vype” magazine’s July edition that came out this past weekend had its “Top 100 Players to Watch” for the 2015 season. Two of those 100 are Poteau Pirates — running back Roger Barcheers and linebacker Austin Archey, both of whom will be seniors this upcoming season.
As for the No. 4 ranking by “Vype” magazine, the new Poteau coach is honored, but realizes it’s just a number at this point.

Poteau soccer girls play final games of Greenwood Summer League this week

The Poteau Lady Pirates soccer team will play their final two games of the 2015 Greenwood [Ark.] Summer League season this week.
The Lady Pirates will face the Fort Smith [Ark.] Southside Lady Rebels at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood.
Then they will meet the Southside junior varsity at 6:40 p.m. Thursday.

Academic seeks death certificate for outlaw Billy the Kid

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A retired Arizona State University professor is taking his pursuit of a death certificate for Billy the Kid to New Mexico's highest court.

Historian Robert J. Stahl filed a petition Friday with the New Mexico Supreme Court to order the state's medical examiner to create the document for the legendary outlaw, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported (http://bit.ly/1CIJ73M).

Stahl says he hopes the court will order the Office of the Medical Investigator to consider the evidence and determine whether William H. Bonney's death can be certified.
