Poteau in final preseason scrimmage Thursday night at 4A champion Wagoner; Hilldale Hornets, Tahlequah Tigers also participating

The Poteau Pirates will have one last chance to take care of the chinks in the armor before meeting the Durant Lions in the Sept. 4 season-opener. That chance will come at 5 p.m. Thursday in a four-way scrimmage at the home of the Class 4A defending champion Wagoner Bulldogs. The Hilldale Hornets and the Tahlequah Tigers will also be in the scrimmage.

Walk-off HR lifts Wister past Red Oak in CASC Classic finals

It took until Monday night to finish the 20th annual Carl Albert State College Fall Classic, but the Wister Wildcats won't mind — especially since they won it.
Sophomore Cash Balentine hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the eighth inning to lift the ’Cats to a 4-2 victory over the Red Oak Eagles in Monday night's finals in Red Oak.

HEAVENER — Sydney Crase's RBI single in the sixth inning scoring Kacee Manley broke a 4-all tie as the Heavener Lady Wolves rallied past the Poteau Lady Pirates 5-4 Monday afternoon.
Spiro 4, Pocola 3; Spiro 4, Stilwell 2; Pocola 7, Stilwell 3: In Spiro, the Lady Bulldogs won both games of their home three-way Monday afternoon, while Pocola's girls won their battle of Lady Bulldogs with Stilwell.
Howe 9, Arkoma 2: In Arkoma, the Lady Lions rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit with a single run in the third, two runs in the fourth, a single run in the fifth and five runs in the seventh.

CAMERON — Whitesboro pitcher Bronco Harjo pitched a two-hitter and struck out four batters as the Bulldogs blanked the Cameron Yellowjackets 10-0 Monday afternoon. It was his first win this season.
Wister 11, McCurtain 1; Wister 8, McCurtain 0: In Wister, the Wildcats swept a pair from the visiting Bulldogs.
Oktaha 11, Leflore 0: Oktaha pitcher Brock Rodden threw a five-inning complete game with six strikeouts and scattering four hits.

CLAREMORE — The Poteau Lady Pirates suffered a pair of losses Friday in the Rogers State College Classic, falling 6-3 to Sand Springs and 7-2 to Muskogee.
Cameron 7, Arkoma 2: In Cameron, the Lady Yellowjackets rallied from a 2-0 first-inning deficit with a four-run third inning to take the lead for good at 4-2 after three innings.
Leflore 12, Indianola 2: In Leflore, the Lady Savages jumped out to a 2-0 lead after an inning, which became a 6-0 advantage by the end of two.

Pocola girls beat Hartshorne, McAlester in Robbers Cave Shootout on Friday; Saturday's action for Lady Indians, Howe girls rained out

WILBURTON — The Pocola Lady Indians got a pair of wins Friday in the Robbers Cave Shootout, beating Hartshorne 9-2 and blanking McAlester 5-0.
The final day of action in the event for both the Lady Indians and the Howe Lady Lions was rained out, with no make-up date set.

Heavener girls blank Elgin, McLoud in Hall of Fame Shootout; Spiro goes 3-1

SHAWNEE — The Heavener Lady Wolves won both of their games Friday in the Hall of Fame Shootout, blanking Elgin 7-0 and McLoud 16-0 at the Ballfield at Firelake.
The Spiro Lady Bulldogs played on both days, splitting Friday's games — beating Cache 6-3 but losing to Bethel 9-3 — before winning twice on Saturday, over McLoud 9-1 and Grove 7-5.

U.S. Marshals Museum to Host ‘Meet the Marshals’ Lunch & Learn

FORT SMITH, Ark. (Aug. 25, 2015) – Join the U.S. Marshals Museum this Friday, Aug. 28 at noon for a Lunch & Learn and hear from representatives of the local U.S. Marshals office. The event, which will be held at the museum’s office at 14 North 3rd Street in Fort Smith, is free and open to the public. 

“Bring your lunch, and come learn about the great work the U.S. Marshals Service is doing right here in Fort Smith,” said Leslie Higgins, director of education for the U.S. Marshals Museum. “We look forward to seeing you at the Lunch & Learn on Friday.”
