TAHLEQUAH — The Poteau Pirates golf team started the season very strong as they were third among Class 5A and 6A golf teams Wednesday afternoon at the Tahlequah Invitational.
The Pirates were third with a score of 343, finishing behind champion Tulsa Bishop Kelley (326) and Tahlequah (340).
But the good news was the two teams ahead of the Pirates were Class 5A teams.
“It was a great start for us,” Poteau Boys Coach Mike Thomas said. “We beat all the Class 4A golf teams in the field.”
One Pirate was among the Top 10 medalists as freshman Cody Shore was ninth with an 83.
A few years ago, Jeff “Jedi” Dennis and Ed Sockey were working somewhere in Tennessee. They would call me every other day just to check in, and see how I was and what was happening back in good ol' Poteau. I could tell they were homesick — I knew they were going to be. I get all beside myself when I get out of LeFlore County!
