While the Poteau Pirates will hope for a happy homecoming tonight when they entertain the Stilwell Indians at 7:30 p.m. at Costner Stadium, last week was a pretty happy one, too, for the locals after the Pirates ended a six-game losing streak to the archrival Sallisaw Black Diamonds in a 34-9 victory.
âIt was a good win for us,â Poteau coach Greg Werner said. âIt was a good win for our program. It was a good win for the town. Hopefully, that can propel us to bigger and better things. It was a big deal for us to win.â

For the first time since the tailgate party that took place on the first day of football practice in August, the Heavener Wolves will finally get to play a game at Harvey Stadium, which they will do at 7:30 tonight in their District 3A-8 contest against the Roland Rangers.

The Pocola Indians football team has had a rough two-game road trip the last two weeks, losing 29-20 to the Quinton Savages and 59-0 to the Vian Wolverines in the District 2A-6 opener.
Now, the Indians (1-3 overall, 0-1 in district play) will return to the friendly confines of John Carter Field for a homecoming district game against the Hugo Buffaloes (4-0, 0-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
