Celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center

December 10, 2013

The pace of life today is so rushed and hectic that we forget about the natural rhythms of the Sun, Moon and Stars. Native American farmers understood these rhythms. In the rhythm of the sun, the Winter Solstice is a period of rest, preparation and celebration. Come to the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center on December 21, 2013, and there will be three guided walks to learn more about the Winter Solstice and how Native Americans dealt with the changes in the seasons.

Mother Nature was big winner last week

December 9, 2013

There's no doubt who the big winner was in the world of LeFlore County basketball — Mother Nature.
All games from Thursday through Saturday last week were canceled due to the wintry weather. Most of those games will be made up, although Wister's games at the Pick and Shovel Classic in Hartshorne will likely not be rescheduled.
Also, both Mother Nature and the rescheduled high school football playoffs have played havoc with this week's schedule as well.
