The Poteau High School wrestling team will begin the 2013-14 season tonight in a road dual against Quinton beginning at 7 p.m.
Then, the Pirates will entertain the Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers in the home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.

Well, so much for high school football playoffs this weekend

December 7, 2013

The good news is the Poteau Pirates and the Talihina Golden Tigers didn't lose this weekend on the gridiron. Of course, they didn't win, either.
The big winner this weekend in the world of high school football was Mother Nature. The wintry weather statewide made the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association cancel all the high school playoffs this weekend and essentially push the games to a week later — thus the Class 3A, 2A and A state title games will take place the weekend before Christmas.

Weather, football playoffs force changes in next week's basketball tournaments; EOSC Classic will resume Dec. 19-21

December 7, 2013

This week's wintry weather has not only affected the high school football playoffs, but actually both the weather and the weather-related rescheduled high school football playoffs have made next week's tournaments do some tweaking of their schedules.
The Green Valley Conference Tournament, which was slated to begin Monday at Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse, will now begin Tuesday with the girls games due to weather conditions.

Weather cancels remaining basketball games for week

December 5, 2013

Not only were the high school football playoffs affected by this week's icy weather, so, too, was the hoop schedule.
The rest of the week's slate of basketball games have been canceled or postponed due to inclement weather conditions.
The Poteau Lady Pirates will have to wait until next week to open their season as this week's Southeast Oklahoma Shootout at McAlester's Southeast Expo Center was postponed and may not be rescheduled. They will open their season next week in the Wilburton Tournament.

I hope y'all had a happy Thanksgiving; a trip to 'Billy Deer Camp'

December 5, 2013

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day holiday. We did at “The Adams' Family Compound.”
I went to Walmart that night for its Black Friday sale, and it was crazy. Everybody was on edge. I was just going in with everybody, having fun and trying to “lighten” the mood, and some woman didn't like me too much. She started to come after me, but they talked her out of it. I dodged a bullet, and I was spared the embarrassment of being beaten up by a woman in front of Walmart.
