Panama powerlifter places at state

McLOUD — Panama High School powerlifter Ryan Farrar placed at last weekend's Class 2A State Powerlifting Meet. He lifted a total of 1,275 pounds to finish fifth at heavyweight.
Two other Razorbacks participated in the meet, but did not place. Gabe Harp lifted 960 total pounds in the 168-pound division, while Bobby Lotchleas lifted 1,160 pounds in the heavyweight division.

Stilwell's big inning dooms Poteau boys in home opener

For five innings, Saturday afternoon's home opener for the Poteau Pirates baseball team at Town Creek Park was going just fine. Then came the sixth inning.
The Stilwell Indians sent 16 batters to the plate, scoring 11 of them, as they rallied to down the Pirates 14-7.

Pocola boys lose season opener to Charleston, Ark.

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians played their first baseball game of the 2013 season Friday afternoon against the Charleston (Ark.) Tigers, and hung tough until the last out but they were outlasted 6-3.

PANAMA — The Panama Razorbacks baseball team bounced back from its tough road loss Thursday to Cameron to handle the Panola Bearcats 12-2.
The Razorbacks scored three runs in the opening inning for a 3-0 lead and never trailed.
Hartford, Ark., 13, Arkoma 1: Friday in Arkoma, the Mustangs fell behind 6-0 by the third inning before Josh Marion scored Arkoma's lone run on an error in the third inning.
Heavener 9, Buffalo Valley 4; Kiowa 16, Heavener 6: Friday in Kiowa, the Wolves split Friday's games.

Heavener Invitational track meet begins Tuesday morning

The first 2013 high school track meet of the season in LeFlore County will take place today as the Heavener Invitational will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harvey Stadium.
It will be the first track meet of the season for the host Wolves and Lady Wolves.
Other county teams expected to participate are Arkoma, Poteau and Spiro.

Carl Albert baseball team loses to archrival Eastern

The Eastern Oklahoma State College Mountaineers baseball team took the first of its rivalry games from the Carl Albert State College Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.
A three-run eighth inning broke a 4-all tie to enable the Mountaineers to beat the Vikings 8-5.
The Vikings will return to action this afternoon in a road doubleheader against Arkansas Baptist. Action in Little Rock is slated to begin at 2 p.m. The two teams split a twinbill Friday afternoon at Ival Goodman Field, with the Vikings winning the opener 9-0 but losing the nightcap 8-1.

CASC softball twinbill canceled Tuesday

Tuesday afternoon's Carl Albert State College softball doubleheader against Seminole State College in Shawnee has been canceled. The twinbill has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. April 2 in Shawnee.
The Lady Vikings will play Connors State College in a twinbill at 2 p.m. Thursday in Warner.

Thelma Mae Black Whitmore, 77, of Bokoshe died away Friday, March 8, 2013, in Bokoshe.
Thelma was born August 10, 1935 in Milton to Luther and Ina Grace (Painter) Nixon. She was a homemaker and a member of New Life Church in Panama. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Glen Black and William Whitmore; brothers, Robert, Vernon, Jodie and Jimmie; and sisters, Lelia, Irene, Jeanita and Oteka.
