Panama shortstop makes All-State; Poteau duo named first alternates

For the second straight fall fast-pitch softball season, the Panama Lady Razorbacks have an All-Stater.
After Taylor Eaves made All-State last fall, shortstop Stephanie Barcheers did so this fall.
Barcheers, who was a member of the All-LeFlore County Tournament Team, hit .418 with 23 runs batted in and a fielding percentage of .975 as the Lady ’Backs got to the Class 2A regional final before losing to Colbert after making state the previous two seasons — and winning it all in 2011.

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages maintained perfection on the season as they defeated the Pittsburg Panthers 73-55 Friday night on Nadine Carpenter Court.
The Savages jumped out to a 19-9 lead after a period and never looked back.
Cameron 84, Hartford, Ark., 41: Thursday night in Hartford, the Yellowjackets, winners of three straight, jumped out to a 24-15 lead after a period. However, leading 61-41 after three quarters, the ’Jackets pitched a shutout in the fourth period, outscoring Hartford 24-0.

HARTFORD, Ark. — The goose egg left the win column for the Cameron Lady Yellowjackets on Thursday night as they got their first win of the season, beating Hartford, Ark., 45-34.
The Lady ’Jackets doubled Hartford 8-4 in the first quarter en route to a 23-15 halftime lead. Then, Cameron outscored Hartford 22-19 in the second half.

Poteau Youth Wrestling Club has 47 members place in own tournament last weekend

It was a banner Poteau Tournament for the Poteau Youth Wrestling Club on Nov. 9 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. The club had 47 members place.
The tournament itself had 17 teams represented in the tournament and nearly 200 wrestlers in the five different divisions of action.
Of the 47 members who placed for the local organization, 12 of them took home the gold in their respective weight classes. In Division I, Coy Fredrickson (40 pounds), Drew Moro (43 pounds), Hayden Moro (52 pounds) and Mason Stone (60 pounds) won their respective titles in their weight classes.

Arkoma Mustangs win first-ever playoff game; Mustangs head west to Shattuck next week

ARKOMA — Leading 54-24 at intermission, the Arkoma Mustangs scored two quick third-quarter touchdowns to invoke the 45-point mercy rule and record their first-ever playoff win with a 70-24 victory over the Timberlake Tigers on Friday night at Mustang Field in a Class C opening-round playoff game.
The Mustangs (7-3) will be in a quarterfinal game against Class C's fourth-ranked Shattuck Indians, who mercy ruled Grandfield 48-0 Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Shattuck — located about 20 miles west of Woodward in far western Oklahoma.

Talihina handles Stratford Bulldogs; Hominy Bucks next for Tigers

TALIHINA — The Talihina Golden Tigers began their march toward the Class A state title with a 47-7 rout of the Stratford Bulldogs in an opening-round playoff game Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium.
The Golden Tigers (11-0) will entertain the Hominy Bucks, who upset Summit Christian 34-27 on Friday night, at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at “The Pit.”

Late Okemah score spells doom for Panama

OKEMAH — A fourth-quarter touchdown by the Okemah Panthers proved to be the difference as they defeated the Panama Razorbacks 26-21 Friday night in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The loss ends Panama's season at 7-4.

Spiro falls to Hilldale to see season come to an end

MUSKOGEE — After being on an eight-game winning streak from Week 2 until the regular-season finale, back-to-back losses brought an end to the football season for the Spiro Bulldogs on Friday night at Hornet Field.
The homestanding Hilldale Hornets stung the Bulldogs 32-7 in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs to end Spiro's season at 8-3.

Pirates knock stripes off Tigers to gain quarterfinals; Poteau will entertain Clinton next week

Both the Poteau Pirates and the Cleveland Tigers earned their playoff slots last week. The Pirates claimed the District 4A-4 title and were awarded the No. 1 seed, while the Tigers ended up with the fourth slot from District 4A-3.
The Pirates pounced all over the Tigers early and often as they jumped out to a 27-0 lead at intermission and then extended that lead to 48-7 for the final score.
