It sure didn't feel like Spring Break; Next week is LeFlore County Baseball Tournament

Was it just me, or did Spring Break feel anything but spring? While covering games at the Poteau Wood Bat Festival and the Class 3A Showcase in Spiro, I felt like I was at football game it was so cold. By the way, I want to thank Spiro baseball coach Paul Croft for the heater in his team's dugout on Friday and Saturday. It helped keep my blood circulating!
However, be that as it may, Spring Break is over, and it's back to normal for the high school athletics spring seasons. It's hard to believe, but there are about eight weeks left!

Beware of new phone scam

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak and the Medicare Assistance Program are alerting Oklahoma seniors to a new telephone scam. The warning comes after reports of scammers telling victims that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires them to gather personal information for a national medical card. But such a card does not exist.

Hope Assistance Program to help the elderly

The Hope Assistance Program can help you or a loved one with personal items such as adult briefs and diapers, bed pads, disposable gloves and similar items.
The KEDDO Area Agency on Aging is striving to close gaps of services in its planning service areas of Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, LeFlore, McCurtain, Pittsburg and Pushmataha counties through “Hope Assistance” and other programs.

Sheriff's Department seizes marijuana grow operation

The LeFlore County Sheriff's Department seized an indoor marijuana growing operation that appeared to be expanding, according to Sheriff Rob Seale.
Seale said that, on Friday night, his deputies, along with agents of the District 16 Drug Task Force and officers of the Panama Police Department, served a search warrant on a home belonging to Steve Cox in the Tucker community. When officers entered the home, they discovered 36 marijuana plants growing inside a vacant bedroom. The plants were in various stages of growth.

This afternoon's softball action today canceled

Some of today's softball games have been canceled due to cold temperatures.
Bokoshe's season-opening softball game at Cameron was postponed Monday due to not only cold weather but poor field conditions. Cameron coach Roy Butler said he was going to try to reschedule the game.
Today's three-game festival with Wister and Talihina at Pocola has been canceled due to cold weather. The games have not be rescheduled.
This afternoon's Heavener softball games have been canceled.
The host team for today's action, Sallisaw-Central, had to back out due to a funeral.

The game has been rescheduled for noon Saturday.

Wister boys go 2-1 in Union City Festival, while Whitesboro goes 1-3 in two-day event

Despite winter-type weather conditions, the Wister Wildcats and the Whitesboro Bulldogs got to play their games in the two-day Union City Festival, which took place Thursday and Friday at several locations.
The Wildcats went 2-1 as they ended the two-day event with a 6-5 win over Lookeba-Sickles on Friday at Redlands Community College in El Reno. Wister's second game against Community Christian School was canceled.
On Thursday in Okarche, the ’Cats split their games, blanking Okarche 4-0 but losing 6-3 to Altus Navajo.

Spiro boys rout Hugo in Class 3A Showcase on Friday; Bulldogs will face Beggs at noon Saturday, Saturday's scheduled match-up with Locust Grove in Springdale canceled

SPIRO — Despite chilly weather Friday afternoon, the Spiro Bulldogs were able to get to play in the Class 3A Showcase, and didn't let the cold weather affect them as they routed the Hugo Buffaloes 15-0 in a four-inning, run-rule game.
The Bulldogs played Wilburton on Friday night, then will wrap up the event with a noon game Saturday against Beggs. The ’Dogs were scheduled to face Locust Grove at 2 p.m. Saturday in Springdale, Ark., but the game was canceled.
