WILBURTON — The seasons came to an end for the Arkoma Lady Mustangs and the Cameron Yellowjackets Saturday afternoon in the consolation championship game in the Class A Regional Tournament at the new Wilburton Gym.
The Lady Mustangs lost 53-40 to the Allen Lady Mustangs in the girls' consolation title game, then the ’Jackets' valliant comeback fell short in a 50-47 loss to the Boswell Scorpions.
OKLAHOMA CITY — Coming off an emotional overtime win Sunday night against the Denver Nuggets, it would have been no surprise if the Oklahoma City Thunder came out a little flat against the New Orleans Hornets Monday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena. This wasn’t the case, however, as the Thunder took a 60-38 lead at the break and cruised to a 101-93 victory.
A Talihina woman is recovering in an Oklahoma City Hospital after being set on fire by her boyfriend Saturday night.
Donnie L. Harris Jr., 29, of Talihina, was arrested for first degree arson on Sunday after an investigation by Oklahoma State Fire Marshal Investigator Tony Rust.
According to Rust, Harris, along with his girlfriend, three other adults and a child had been inside the home when the incident occurred. Rust stated in a phone interview that Harris had used an ignitable substance to set his girlfriend on fire which subsequently caused a house fire.
Recently, Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center was certified as a Primary Stroke Center by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. This “gold standard” designation in stroke treatment now ensures that EOMC is able to further improve and provide the same standard of care relating to stroke risks, prevention, and treatment as any other tertiary hospitals. “A tremendous amount of commitment, training, and ground work has been exhibited in preparing for this vast accomplishment, said Terry Buckner, CEO, Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center.
A group of local business owners have banned together to speak out against the proposed hotel tax in Poteau. The group, named the Poteau Area Business Alliance (PABA), was formed last week by all the hotel and motel owners in Poteau. Organizers say that when the group met shortly after the special election for the tax was voted on by the Poteau City Council earlier this month they discussed the fact that there wasn't an organization that business owners could go to that could stand up for them.

Dale Keith, 78, of Whitesboro died February 18, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 21, at 2 p.m. in the Talihina Funeral Home Chapel in Talihina.
Internment will be at the Whitesboro Cemetery in Whitesboro.
The Talihina Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Alta Holt, 77, of Poteau, Okla., passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 in Poteau. Mary was born December 31, 1934 in Talihina, Okla., to George N. and Atha Irene (Mahorney) Stoynoff. Mary was a retired telephone operator. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jack Holt.
Janice Pauline Midgley Couch, of Wister, Okla., passed away Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark. Janice was born Sunday, December 2, 1962 in Stockton, Calif., to Clifford Melton and Lilace Elaine (Sampson) Midgley. She was a cook at Wister Public Schools. Janice was preceded in death by her paternal grandpa, Charley Midgley; maternal grandparents, O.C. and Mildred Sampson; and best friend, Cheryl Johnson Seagraves.
Dorothy Curtis, 85, of Talihina, passed away February 18, 2012 in Fort Smith, Ark.
Funeral services will be conducted on February 21, at 10 a.m. at the Talihina First Baptist Church in Talihina.
Interment will be at the Riechert Cemetery.
Talihina Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
