Spiro man rides whirlwind to White House, beyond

November 8, 2013

The past couple of years have been a whirlwind for Spiro native Chris Kimmel. His adventure has taken him all over the world and has taken him from a part-time job of picking up trash in Spiro to working in the White House.

Five football teams will see postseason action next week

November 8, 2013

There will be five LeFlore County high school football teams make the postseason parade next week.
As I wrote this, two of them — Poteau (Class 4A) and Talihina (Class A) — will be home. Panama (Class 2A) will visit Okemah, while it was uncertain until late Friday night not only who but where Spiro (Class 3A) and Arkoma (Class C) would wind up in the playoffs.

The Adams family indeed had a happy Halloween

November 8, 2013

I hope you had a great Halloween. The Adams family did.
We stayed homed and scared kids as well as handed out candy. We went through four bags of candy, and we were out by 8 p.m. There were kids all over the neighborhood, and it keeps getting bigger each year. I heard that one house had a fire and was serving up hot dogs, too. Next year, I'm going to have to step up my game.
On Saturday, we went to “The Wilson Family Fall Festival.” There were more than 100 people there.
I made 15 pounds of deer chili and brought 40 quarter-pound hot dogs.

Talihina hoping for perfect regular season in road game tonight against Gore Pirates

November 8, 2013

Last week, the Talihina Golden Tigers routed the Savanna Bulldogs 43-6 to claim the top seed from District A-6.
“We played for the district championship and an undefeated season,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “It was the best the Golden Tigers have played since I've been here. We were sharp, and were ready in all aspects of the game. The kids were on cue.”'
So, one might think when the Golden Tigers (9-0 overall, 5-0 in district play) travels to face the Gore Pirates (2-7, 2-3) at 7:30 tonight that there might not be a lot on the line for Talihina. Think again.

Bokoshe looks for first district win tonight to end season on high note; Tigers travel to Yukon to meet SW Covenant

November 8, 2013

All the Bokoshe Tigers football team wants is a District C-4 win before 2013 comes to and end. Tonight will be their last shot when the Tigers (1-7 overall, 0-6 in district play) make the long journey to Yukon to meet the Southwest Covenant Patriots (3-4, 3-3) at 7:30 p.m.
“It would be big for our four seniors to go out with a district win,” Bokoshe coach Bryan Murray said. “The kids have worked hard all year long and have improved themselves. I do see better things down the road, but to win a district game in as tough a district as we're in it would be big.”

Pocola looks to end season with road win tonight at Mountainburg

November 8, 2013

A sports adage says that only one team can win its final game — the one that wins a state championship.
While there's no state championship at stake tonight when the Pocola Indians (2-7) travel to meet Mountainburg, Ark., to end their season, they can win their final game — which would be huge for the program.
