Pocola boys beat Gans for first win of season

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring six runs and ended up routing the Gans Grizzlies 9-1 in a run-rule victory on Tuesday.

RED OAK — It was a tough two-day outing for the Wister Wildcats baseball team in the Red Oak Festival, which took place Monday and Tuesday.
The Wildcats suffered their first losses of the season, losing 8-0 to the Latta Panthers on Tuesday after losing a nine-inning game to the Asher Indians 6-5 on Monday.
Leflore 7, Kinta 3: Monday in Leflore, the Savages got a run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead and never trailed, building a 7-1 lead after six innings.

Wister boys win Smithville Tournament; Whitesboro boys lose in consolation finals

SMITHVILLE — The Wister Wildcats baseball team entered Spring Break Week in fine fashion Saturday by winning the Smithville Tournament, beating the host Braves 4-2.
The Wildcats beat Haworth 9-0 in the championship semifinals on Friday.
The Whitesboro Bulldogs got to the consolation finals on Saturday afternoon, but lost 6-4 to the Wright City Lumberjax.
The Bulldogs got to the consolation finals with two wins on Friday, beating Battiest 12-4 and Howe 13-5.

Heavener girls have rough Saturday in Okemah Festival

OKEMAH — The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team had a rough way to enter Spring Break as they lost all four games Saturday in the Okemah Festival. The Lady Wolves lost 17-3 to Holdenville, 6-5 to host Okemah, 11-1 to Mangum and 9-2 to Morris — which is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, Heavener's class.

Carl Albert softball team goes 1-2 in Carthage Festival on Saturday; Sunday's games rained out

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carl Albert State College softball team went 1-2 in three games Saturday in the Carthage Festival, beating Maplewood, Mo., 14-2, but losing 12-2 to Kirkwood, Iowa, and 6-5 to Three Rivers, Mo.
Sunday's two games were rained out, and will not be made up.
The day belonged to the duo of Jessika Nolen and Talia Lattimore, who each hit three homers in the three games played.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday as they entertain archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College in a doubleheader.

Reba Inez Barbee, 83, of Spiro died Sunday, March 17, 2013.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 22, at First Baptist Church in Spiro. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Hoyt Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.

Mountain Gate Poker Run t-shirt design unveiled

The t-shirt design for the sixth annual Mountain Gate Poker Run, scheduled for Saturday, April 13, has been unveiled.
This year's T-shirt sponsors have outdone themselves this year with an eye-catching design, according to Talihina Chamber of Commerce Director Vera Nelson.
Shirt colors include white, black, blue, hot pink and gray. They should be in the chamber office by Monday, Nelson said.

BROKEN BOW — The Talihina Golden Tigers baseball team outlasted the Wright City Lumberjax 10-9 in the first pool-play game of the Broken Bow Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The Golden Tigers will play Stilwell at 2 this afternoon, then Idabel at 4 this afternoon to wrap up pool play. How they do in those games will determine who they will play, when they will play and for what place on Wednesday.
Spiro 8, Sequoyah-Tahlequah 1; Vian 10, Spiro 6: Saturday at Vian Festival, the Bulldogs split its games to wrap up the week.

MULDROW — Muldrow pitchers Clay Cowett and Landon Sutton combined to no-hit Pocola Friday afternoon at Bulldog Field, blanking the injury-depleted Indians 8-0.

Wister girls split six games in Preston Festival

PRESTON — The Wister Lady Wildcats softball team split its six games over the Preston Festival, which took place Friday and Satuday.
The Lady Wildcats defeated Okay 13-1, Pioneer 9-0 and host Preston 9-1, but lost 5-3 to Class 4A's top-ranked team from Washington, 12-4 to Liberty and 14-6 to Kellyville.
