James Perry “Jack” Martindale

February 13, 2012

James P. “Jack” Martindale, 89, formerly of Howe, died Feb. 8, 2012, in Houston, Texas. He was born July 5, 1922, at Kinta, to Perry L. and Madge (Ritter) Martindale. He was a retired painting contractor.
 He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veneice; a daughter, Marilyn Prescott; a son, Bobby Martindale; one brother and two sisters.
 Jack is survived by two sons, David and wife Karen Martindale of Houston, Jimmy Wayne and wife Jackie Martindale of Rockford, Ill; a son-in-law, Don Prescott, of  Pasadena, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  

Frank Lee Nunley

Frank Lee Nunley, 71, of Spiro died Feb. 7, 2012, in Cancun, Mexico.
He was born Nov. 4, 1940, at Panama to William and Agnes (Bice) Nunley. Frank was a retired barber, a 33rd Degree Mason and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Sevier; daughter, Sherry Welker; and a brother, Robert Nunley.

Keith Allen Kumley, 59, of Shady Point died Feb. 7, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. No service is planned at this time. Cremation services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.

Patricia J. McClain, 65, of Heavener died Sunday. Feb. 12, in Fort Smith, Ark. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Dowden Funeral Chapel in Heavener. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Heavener, under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.

E.C. Lawson, 37, of Talihina died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at his home. Services were held Monday, Feb. 13, in the Buffalo Valley Gymnasium. Burial was in Lutie Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Taylor listed as Competitor for Ms. CEntennial Chamber

The Poteau Chamber of Commerce announced the entertainment section for this year's 93rd Annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be the "Ms. Centennial Chamber" Pageant. The Ms. Centennial will be presented in four parts throughout the night.
The entertainment will consist of an opening dance, fashion show, talent and the final judging.

Hundreds converge At CASC Senior Day

More than 450 seniors representing 40 high schools attended the annual Senior Day at Carl Albert State College on Thursday.
The students spent the day learning about CASC, toured campus, had lunch at the cafeteria and went home with a stack of college information — including CASC T-shirts and other promotional items.
David Hogan, Upward Bound Coordinator at CASC Poteau, served as emcee of the overall event and had students cheering and dancing in the aisles, according to Leroy Nolan, Director of High School and College Relations.

Pocola teams sweep hoop pair from archrival Panama

POCOLA — There's nothing more that teams wish to do than knock off their archrivals. It happened Thursday night at the Pocola Gym.
The Pocola High School basketball teams posted a doubleheader sweep over their archrivals from Panama. The Lady Indians defeated the Lady Razorbacks 46-36, while the Indians followed suit with a 75-39 victory over the Hogs.

Carl Albert teams split with archrival Eastern

Behind 24 points from Shelby Trozzi and 23 points from Whitney Barnes, the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings won their seventh consecutive game over the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers, winning 77-57 Thursday night at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
Thanks to 27 points from Marcus Tarrance and 65.3-percent shooting from the field, that proved to be the difference for the eighth-ranked Mountaineers in their 84-68 win over the Vikings in Thursday night's second game.
