No Class 3A Showcase games on Thursday

Due to the threat of bad weather on Thursday, Spiro baseball coach Paul Croft said that Thursday's Day 1 schedule of games in the Class 3A Showcase at Spiro — Spiro vs. Wilburton, Wilburton vs. Beggs, Beggs vs. Kansas, OKC Mount St. Mary vs. Kansas, Haskell vs. Hugo and Spiro vs. Haskell — have been canceled, and will not be rescheduled.
At this moment, Friday's games — OKC Mount St. Mary vs. Hugo, 10 a.m.; Hugo vs. Wilburton, noon; OKC Mount St. Mary vs. Beggs, 2 p.m.; Kansas vs. Okmulgee, 4 p.m.; Spiro vs. Okmulgee, 6 p.m. — are still scheduled to take place.

Carl Albert baseball team wins series finale from Southwestern Community College

Behind the strong pitching performance by former Red Oak Eagle Jordan Booth and some running blunders by Southwestern Community College Spartan runners was a good combination for the Carl Albert State College baseball team Monday afternoon as it defeated the Spartans 5-2 at Ival Goodman Field.
The Vikings will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ival Goodman Field in a doubleheader with Rose State College.

Pocola girls lose to Red Oak

RED OAK — One big inning doomed the Pocola Lady Indians softball team in Monday's 14-2 loss to the Red Oak Lady Eagles.
The results of Pocola's other game against Oktaka was not available.

David Ladd, 70, of Stigler died Wednesday, March 20. Services are planned at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, in Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler.

Poteau golfer wins first high school tournament; Pirates finish third as a team

DURANT — Poteau junior golfer Connor Wheat won his first-ever high school tournament on Friday, winning the Durant Invitational at Silverado Golf Course.
However, Wheat, who shot a 38-39—77, had to go a little extra to win the title. Wheat had to go into a sudden-death playoff, and he won the playoff on the first hole.
Wheat wasn't the only Poteau golfer to place. Cody Shore, who opened the season by winning the Tulsa McLain/TSST Tournament last week in Broken Arrow, was third with a 40-39—79.

Pocola boys beat Gans for first win of season

POCOLA — The Pocola Indians sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning scoring six runs and ended up routing the Gans Grizzlies 9-1 in a run-rule victory on Tuesday.

RED OAK — It was a tough two-day outing for the Wister Wildcats baseball team in the Red Oak Festival, which took place Monday and Tuesday.
The Wildcats suffered their first losses of the season, losing 8-0 to the Latta Panthers on Tuesday after losing a nine-inning game to the Asher Indians 6-5 on Monday.
Leflore 7, Kinta 3: Monday in Leflore, the Savages got a run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead and never trailed, building a 7-1 lead after six innings.

Wister boys win Smithville Tournament; Whitesboro boys lose in consolation finals

SMITHVILLE — The Wister Wildcats baseball team entered Spring Break Week in fine fashion Saturday by winning the Smithville Tournament, beating the host Braves 4-2.
The Wildcats beat Haworth 9-0 in the championship semifinals on Friday.
The Whitesboro Bulldogs got to the consolation finals on Saturday afternoon, but lost 6-4 to the Wright City Lumberjax.
The Bulldogs got to the consolation finals with two wins on Friday, beating Battiest 12-4 and Howe 13-5.

Heavener girls have rough Saturday in Okemah Festival

OKEMAH — The Heavener Lady Wolves softball team had a rough way to enter Spring Break as they lost all four games Saturday in the Okemah Festival. The Lady Wolves lost 17-3 to Holdenville, 6-5 to host Okemah, 11-1 to Mangum and 9-2 to Morris — which is ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, Heavener's class.

Carl Albert softball team goes 1-2 in Carthage Festival on Saturday; Sunday's games rained out

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carl Albert State College softball team went 1-2 in three games Saturday in the Carthage Festival, beating Maplewood, Mo., 14-2, but losing 12-2 to Kirkwood, Iowa, and 6-5 to Three Rivers, Mo.
Sunday's two games were rained out, and will not be made up.
The day belonged to the duo of Jessika Nolen and Talia Lattimore, who each hit three homers in the three games played.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at 2 p.m. Tuesday as they entertain archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College in a doubleheader.
