Euel F. Bethell, 86, of Holson Valley died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in Fort Smith, Ark. She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Knothole community near Cameron, to Gladys (Hardin) and James Dewey Hensley. She was a twin and the eldest of 11 children. She was a homemaker and never allowed anyone to leave her home without sending “something” with them. She loved to go fishing and camping with her husband and family and always worked beside her husband on the farm, at the sawmill and anywhere else she was needed.

Jean Mixon, 88, of Shady Point died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, in Shady Point. Jean was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Jenny Lind, Ark., to Robert Lee and Fannie (Carpenter) Kiger. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Mixon; her parents; five brothers, Royce, Floyd, Sam, Richard (Bob) and Jacky; four sisters, Melvina Thompson, Margie Garrett, Islrea Jordan, Cordy Sherfield Fletcher; and granddaughter, Angela Smith Stacey

Panama man gets life in father's slaying

A Panama man accused of murdering his father will spend more than 50 years behind bars after a court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
Timothy Rue Lockaby, 51, was charged with first-degree murder in the hanging and beating death of his 77-year-old father, Arlen "Buck" Lockaby, in March.

Double murder trial began Thursday

The fate of accused double murderer Christopher Kenyon Simpson lies in the hands of nine women and three men after jury selection concluded and opening statements were heard Thursday.
Simpson is accused in the 2012 death of 20-year-old Ka'Loni Flynn and her unborn child.
On Thursday morning, jury selection got underway in LeFlore County District Court and by 3 p.m., 12 county residents took their places to hear testimony in the murder trial.

Bokoshe Tigers' home football opener tonight against Sasakwa Vikings

For the first time since Oct. 5 of last season, the Bokoshe Tigers football team will play a home game.
The Tigers will welcome the Sasakwa Vikings to town for a District C-4 game at 7:30 tonight.
The Tigers are glad to be finally home.
“The kids are excited about getting to play at home,” Bokoshe coach Bryan Murray said. “We've been hitting the grindstone to try to get better.”

Spiro Bulldogs welcome Haskell to town tonight

After winning the battle of the Bulldogs 14-12 last week at Muldrow, the Spiro Bulldogs will look to make it two wins in a row tonight when they welcome the Haskell Haymakers to McClain Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Bulldogs (1-1) survived last week at Muldrow, namely due to the defense.
“I thought we played good defensively,” Spiro coach Chris Bunch said. “I was proud of them. We gave up a big pass play to get them the touchdown. We still give up some big plays every now and then, but overall I was proud of our defense.”

Heavener Wolves look to rebound against Gore Pirates tonight

After a rough start to the 2013 season last week in a 42-6 loss to the Hartshorne Miners, the Heavener Wolves will look to rebound tonight against the Gore Pirates. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Gore.
While the first half of last week's opener was a tough one for the Wolves (0-1), the second half was a lot better — and a nice building block to use for tonight's game at Gore.

Pocola Indians travel tonight for first road game, face Quinton Savages

The Pocola Indians football team will hit the road for the first time in 2013 as they will meet the Quinton Savages at 7:30 tonight in Quinton.
The Indians (1-1) won their first game last week, a 73-29 rout of the Haileyville Warriors at John Carter Field.
