Mitchell Lee Warren Sr., 83, of Heavener died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Heavener.
No service is planned at this time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Heavener, under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home.
Willie Jean Hunt, 84, of Poteau died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, in Poteau. Willie was born Dec. 21, 1928, in Panama to Willie E. and Edna (Reeves) Goff. She was a secretary for Casa Bonita. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Russel Hunt.
It's almost here, LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament Week. The annual event will begin Monday at Panama, due to the Poteau Area Recreational Complex not being available.
The bracket of this year's tournament will be in Saturday's edition.
HENRYETTA â€” The Heavener High School cross country teams ran in their second meet of the season Saturday at the Henryetta Invitational.
The Wolves were 13th with 295 points. The host Golden Knights won the team title with 101 points.
Octavio Sanchez was Heavener's highest placer, running the 5k run in 22:11 to place 62nd. Frank Cruz was 94th (23:53), Estaban Martinez was 96th (24:08), James Cinocca was 129th (26:36), Jacob Robertson was 138th (27:18) and Devon Matthews was 153rd (29:30).
NORMAN â€” Let the quarterback controversy begin at the University of Oklahoma! Itâ€™s official â€” OU has a problem at quarterback. Red-shirt freshman Trevor Knight didnâ€™t play well once again, including a pair of third-quarter interceptions that led to coach Bob Stoops putting junior Blake Bell in early in the fourth quarter.
NORMAN â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates came away from the University of Oklahoma Invitational at Reaves Park with third place after holding on for a 3-2 victory over the Purcell Lady Dragons in nine innings Saturday afternoon.
RaeLynn Caldwell struck out six and hit a two-run single scoring the go-ahead and eventual winning runs to lead the Lady Pirates.
In an earlier Saturday game against Pauls Valley, Caldwell struck out nine as the Lady Pirates won 2-1.
HOWE â€” The Wister Wildcats baseball team went through undefeated as Saturday night's 8-2 win over the Smithville Braves at Lions Field brought them the championship plaque of the 2013 Howe Wood Bat Tournament.
The Cameron Yellowjackets edged the Leflore Savages 3-2 to win the third-place game.
Wister beat Leflore 5-1 the first championship semifinal of the day on Saturday afternoon, then Smithville nipped Cameron 2-1 in the second semifinal.
WHITESBORO â€” The week ended on a high note for the Howe Lady Lions softball team, which won both games played on Friday as they downed host Whitesboro 8-4 and routed Clayton 15-2.
The host Lady Bulldogs beat the visiting Lady Bulldogs from Pushmataha County 12-0.
A Panama man has been sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison plus four years of probation for possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Samuel L. Jackson, 24, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Muskogee after pleading guilty to the charge in March.
The charge followed an investigation by the District 16 District Attorneyâ€™s Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration.Â jackson was indicted in December 2012.
