Bow season is finally here, and I am behind schedule

Holy smokes! Bow season is less than a week away. I have finally got to do some scouting, and I have my stands ready to put up. The only thing I am missing is time to put them up in the next four days.
In the last five years, I have had stands up and cameras out in August or early September, but my schedule this year has hindered me from getting that done. So, I am going in to this season with the feeling of being behind.

Jack Parks, 76, of Talihina died Wednesay, Sept. 25, 2013, in Talihina. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at First Baptist Church in Talihina. Burial will be in the Old Talihina Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Jury convicts Simpson on two counts of murder

Breaking news:
The jury in the case of accused murderer Christopher Simpson returned a guilty verdict on two counts of murder. The jury announced its decision tonight (Thursday) shortly before 6. The jury recommended Simpson get life without parole.
Formal sentencing will be held Nov. 8 at 11 a.m.
Simpson was accused in the April 8, 2012, shooting death of 20-year-old Ka'Loni Flynn and her unborn child.

Senior receiver believes Friday night will be the night against Sallisaw

If there's been a night when the Poteau Pirates football team believes will be the night to end the losing streak to archrival Sallisaw, it's Friday night.
“I think we're ready for them,” said Poteau senior wide receiver Kendrick Hardaway, whose Pirates will face the Black Diamonds at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sallisaw's Perry F. Lattimore Stadium. “Both programs have tradition. Honestly, we've been really looking forward to this game as we prepared through the off-season. We think this is the year that it's going to happen.”

WESTVILLE — It was a Lucky 13 for the Poteau Lady Pirates softball team Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Pirates used a 13-run sixth inning to run rule the Westville Lady Yellowjackets 20-0.
The Lady Pirates had 18 hits on the game, with Chelsey Campbell's two home runs leading the way. The senior first baseman was 2-for-5 with two homers, four runs batted in and three runs scored.
Heavener 4, Panama 2; Broken Bow 1, Heavener 0; Broken Bow 8, Panama 0: In Heavener, a four-run first inning for the Lady Wolves rallied them from a 2-0 deficit to the win.

Arkoma girls win away from first-ever district fast-pitch title; Cameron eliminated; district champ crowned today

CAMERON — The Arkoma Lady Mustangs softball team is one win away from heading to the Class A Regional Tournament — and, thus, winning their first-ever fast-pitch softball district title.
At the Class A District Tournament on Tuesday, the Lady Mustangs beat the host Cameron Lady Yellowjackets 2-1 in eight innings and downed the Howe Lady Lions 4-2 to reach this afternoon's title game undefeated.
The Lady ’Jackets were eliminated 2-0 by the Lady Lions in the middle game of the day. Cameron ends the season at 12-16.

Arkoma looks to get back into district race, entertains Sasakwa

It was a heartbreaking Friday night for the Arkoma Mustangs. It looked like they were going to leave Maud with a 42-35 road victory, only to see an interception returned for a touchdown in the final minute doom the Mustangs 43-42.

The Talihina Golden Tigers are off to a 3-0 start after last week's 40-19 win over the Sallisaw junior varsity. They have shown they can be an offensive juggernaut in scoring 70 points against Wilburton in the season opener. They have shown they can overcome adversity as they did in a come-from-behind 32-13 victory over Antlers.
“I'm very pleased,” Talihina coach Kelly Gravitt said. “Minus the Week 2 setback in the first half [to Antlers], I'm very pleased. These kids love to play football. Our defense is lining up in the right spots. Our offense is executing and playing fast and physical.”

BREAKING NEWS: CASE GOES TO JURY - Accused murderer takes the witness stand Wednesday

Breaking news:
The jury in the case of accused murderer Christopher Simpson began deliberations about 11 a.m.

With the culmination of the state's presentation of trial evidence in the murder of 20-year-old Ka'Loni Flynn, the defense called multiple witnesses, the last being accused murder Christopher K. Simpson.
Simpson is accused in the April 8, 2012, shooting death of Flynn and her unborn child. Wednesday marked the fifth day of the trial.

Poteau JV football team blanks Muldrow

The Poteau Pirates junior varsity football team ran its record to 2-0 with a 22-0 shutout of the Muldrow Bulldogs on Monday night at Costner Stadium.
The Pirates will be idle until Oct. 7 when they visit Sallisaw.
