POCOLA â€” The Pocola Indians faced the Heavener Wolves in the last scrimmage of the 2013 football preseason Friday night at John Carter Field with the Indians scoring four times to the Wolves' one.
The Indians found the end zone first on their sixth play of the scrimmage. Quarterback Johnny Saterfield hit senior receiver Kyle Highley for a 60-yard touchdown on a sprint-left play.
On the very next play, SaterfieldÂ found De'Aundre Wilkins open on the right side, who raced to paydirt completing back-to-back TDs for the Indians.
ARKOMA â€” The final warm-up scrimmage for three teams took place on the turf of Mustang Field for the host Arkoma Mustangs, the Gans Grizzlies and the Watts Engineers in this controlled scrimmage.
TALIHINA â€” The Talihina Golden Tigers had their second football scrimmage of the preseason with Class 3A Roland and Class 2A Vian on Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium, and they showed lots of improvement from the previous scrimmage against Valliant â€” on both defense and offense.
The Golden Tigers started on defense first, and completely shut down the Wolverines on the first series.
On Talihina's first offensive series against Vian, the Golden Tigers had 10 plays which netted about 60 yards of offense â€” but failed to score.
SALLISAW â€” The Panama Razorbacks will enter the 2013 season this week in about as good a way, and feeling about themselves, as possible after a strong outing in Friday night's three-way scrimmage with the host Sallisaw-Central Tigers and the Canadian Cougars.
The scrimmage began with the second-string Hogs going against the Tigers' No. 2s and the first-teamers of the Cougars. Panama scored once in that portion of the scrimmage as Ryan Shirey took it to paydirt on a 60-yard run against the Tigers.
Sugarloaf Mountain Productions and the cast for the film "The Clyde Project" converged in downtown Poteau this weekend. The film is an re-enactment of the historic bank robbery of Poteau's Central National Bank.
The production company recently completed filming "Broken Faith" and will begin "Justine" after the completion of the robbery film.
Filming occurred along Witte Street near the Lowrey Hotel as they filmed short segments in front of the green screen.
Two people were arrested Sunday after an argument took to the roadway resulting in a crash that injured one.
According to the Poteau Police accident report, Pedro Martines-CastaÃ±eda, 27, of Poteau was jailed after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a Poteau home.
Heat didn't put much of a dent on the flocks of festival goers who attended the 66th annual Choctaw Nation Labor Day Festival.
On Saturday, with heat indices in the 100s, people packed the festival grounds as they played games, rode rides, shopped and learned about Choctaw heritage.
Emergency Medical Services Director Dave Grovdahl said the majority of the 23 people EMS took to the hospital during the festival were suffering from heat related illnesses.
WISTER â€” A big inning late in the game helped the Wister Wildcats down the Preston Pirates 8-3 for a Thursday afternoon victory.
After the Pirates tied the game at 3 in the top of the sixth inning, Adrian Gonzales hit a two-run home run to highlight a five-run inning for the Wildcats to get them the win.
Howe 12, McCurtain 0: In McCurtain, the Lions got their second win of the season as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning. An eight-run third inning ended the game by run rule.
Crowder 4, Cameron 1; Okay 10, Cameron 2: In Cameron, the Yellowjackets had a rough day on Thursday.
TAHLEQUAH â€” The Heavener Wolves cross country team was ninth and the Lady Wolves 11th at the Early Bird Invitational on Thursday.
The Wolves had 218 points, finishing behind champion and host Tahlequah (30 points). Sequoyah-Tahlequah was second (74 points), followed by Kansas (101), Life Way Christian (134), Pryor (142), Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside (149), Jay (154) and Sallisaw (168).

There will be age 8-, 10- and 12-and-younger softball leagues at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex this fall.
The entry fee is $250 for 8- and 10-and-younger teams, while the entry fee is $300 for the 12-and-younger teams.
