Frances “Jean” Edge, 91, of Heavener died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Heavener Memorial Park. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary D. Martin, 98, of Wister died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, in Poteau. Mary was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Monroe to Marion and Myra Ottie (Collum) Dunn. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, B.C. “Babe” Martin.

Pocola Indians face Poteau JV tonight

The Pocola Indians football team will look to rebound from it’s season-opening loss Friday night against Sallisaw-Central as the Indians will meet the Poteau Pirates junior varsity at 7 tonight at Costner Stadium.
Pocola coach Rick Lang said there were a lot of factors that led to the Indians’ 48-22 loss to the Tigers.
“First off, Central is a good ball club, and they beat us in all three phases of the game,” he said. “It was an eye-opener for our kids, but we had a good practice on Saturday and [Monday]. I’m glad they hit us in the mouth.”

MULDROW — The Muldrow Lady Bulldogs got the season sweep of the Poteau Lady Pirates as Muldrow doubled Poteau 8-4 Tuesday afternoon.
It was a carbon copy of Muldrow’s 10-6 victory in Poteau last month. Trailing 4-2 after the Lady Pirates scored four runs in the fifth inning, the Lady Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to snatch away the win.
Howe 5, Arkoma 3: In Howe, the Lady Lions broke a 2-all tie with a three-run sixth inning.

WHITESBORO — Whitesboro pitcher Joe Smith struck out 11 Leflore batters as the Bulldogs downed the visiting Savages 10-7 Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing 7-6 in the fourth inning, the ’Dogs scored four runs in their half of the frame to get the come-from-behind win.
Howe 10, Clayton 2: Tuesday in Clayton, the Lions got a combined four-hitter from James Hill and Jake Lovell.
Hill got the win, pitching the first 5.1 innings with five strikeouts but allowing four hits, while Lovell went the final 1.2 innings with no hits allowed and four Ks.

Arkoma boys begin District B-4 play Friday night at Gans

The Arkoma Mustangs football team will begin a new venture Friday night. The Mustangs will play their first District B-4 game as they will pay a visit on the Gans Grizzlies for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
The Mustangs (1-0) opened the season last Friday night, handling LeFlore County rival Bokoshe 46-0.

Talihina football team wary of Antlers in Friday’s home opener

Last season, if there was one team, other than Cashion or Ringling in the Class A playoffs, that gave the Talihina Golden Tigers a scare, it was the Antlers Bearcats, who ended up losing 32-13 to Talihina. However, it was anything but a cakewalk.

Despite winning home opener, Pokes not as sharp as in loss to Florida State

STILLWATER — The good news about last Saturday afternoon's home opener for the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Boone Pickens Stadium was they won, beating Missouri State 40-23. However, fans could tell the Pokes weren't as sharp as they looked in the season-opening 37-31 loss to No. 1 Florida State the week before.

Ernestine Hunkapillar, 96, of Talihina died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at First United Methodist Church with Don Baker officiating. Burial will be in A.L. Stephens Cemetery, Clayton, under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service, Talihina.
