Four teams will have a chance for some hardware, but only two teams will succeed in the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament.
Todayâ€™s fifth-place games at Spiro saw their match-ups set with wins Wednesday at the Howe Gym as the Wister Wildcats and the Whitesboro Bulldogs, along with the Pocola Lady Indians and the Leflore Lady Savages, will vie for fifth-place trophies today.
The â€˜Cats survived, but barely, as they outlasted the LCT host Howe Lions 49-47. The â€™Dogs rallied in the final quarter to down the Heavener Wolves 39-34.
Both Panama teams as well as the Cameron Yellowjackets and the Bokoshe Lady Tigers reached Thursdayâ€™s consolation finals with Wednesday night wins in the 83rd LeFlore County Tournament at Carl Albert State Collegeâ€™s Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
The Razorbacks got past the Arkoma Mustangs 56-52, while the Yellowjackets withstood a fourth-quarter rally by the Pocola Indians to post a 51-46 victory.
On the girlsâ€™ side, the Lady Razorbacks beat the Talihina Golden Tigers 40-25, while the Lady Tigers defeated the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs 55-49.
Last Friday, I finally had surgery on my knee at The River Valley Orthopedic Hopsital in Fort Smith, Ark. This facility is so nice. The cafeteria is beyond first class, and I was so surprised by the food.
But, back to my knee surgery. Dr. Steve Smith did the surgery, and he was such a great guy â€” I really liked him a lot.
The Poteau High School basketball teamsâ€™ Pink-Out Games will be Tuesday against Spiro at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse, with the girlsâ€™ game at 6:30 p.m. and the boysâ€™ contest at 8 p.m.
There will be baked goods for sale with all proceeds to be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The second annual Hungry Like the Wolf 5k/10k fun run/walk and two-mile walk will take place beginning at noon Feb. 21 at Blues Park in Heavener. Race-day registration and packet pick-up will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Packets may also be picked up from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at Heavener High School.
Robert E. Lee Pierce, 90, of Shady Point died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in Shady Point.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Calhoun Baptist Church with Brother Steve Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans and Miller Funeral Home
Freda Fonzell Armstrong, 74, Poteau died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, in Poteau.
Freda was born Jan. 7, 1941 in Poteau to Bill and Ocie Bell (Harris) Walker. She was a 30-year dedicated Walmart employ-ee. She was a member of the Poteau Church of Christ. Freda was preceded in death by her father, Bill Walker; and brother, Billy Walker.
Joshua Wayne Black, 33, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, in Fort Smith.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Evans and Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Pocola with burial in Macedonia Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
