The National Football League season will begin in a couple of weeks, and that means it's time to have draft parties for all the upcoming NFL Fantasy Football Leagues.
These are your fantasy football league draft dates: IBC League, 1 p.m. Saturday at Cross Community Church; CCC League, 5 p.m. Saturday at Cross Community Church; Possum League, 1 p.m. Sunday at Danny Caldwell's house; The Elite 12 League, 5 p.m. Sunday at Danny Caldwell's house.
I want to wish all you fantasy guys luck this year, and I hope you dominate your respective fantasy leagues â€” unless I'm in that league.
Howard Harold â€śDenoâ€ť Roberts, 68, of Heavener died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in Heavener.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. in the Dowden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Norma Lois Bailey Mattox, known as â€śMean Momma,â€ť of Howe was born March 28, 1937 in Howe and passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, in Howe at the age of 76.
Norma was a lifelong resident of the Howe area, a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 26 years, a former school bus driver, oilfield worker and beautician. She was a lover of all sports and loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in all athletics.
The body of a 46-year-old woman reported missing Monday was found Thursday near Monroe.
According to LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan, the woman, whose name is being withheld at this time, was reported missing on Monday. Morgan said LeFlore County Sgt. Donnie Edwards and Deputy Randy Liles began investigating the missing person case and following leads into her disappearance, which led them to tracking her location by use of the global positioning system in her cell phone, Morgan said.
A LOOK AHEAD â€” Poteau Public Schools Superintendent Don Sjoberg, standing, talks to Poteau Kiwanis Club members at their weekly meeting Thursday at Western Sizzlin. Sjoberg discussed the need for a new high school building, and what it will take to make such an aspiration become reality. He did say that because of current facilities that the district is turning down transfer requests for students in pre-K and kindergarten, and is fearful that the same thing may happen at the high school level. School board members are considering a proposed $21.575 million bond issue for a new high school.
A Wister man was injured Wednesday morning after being thrown from his vehicle during an accident.
Christopher M. Copeland, 22, was driving a 2011 Chevy Silverado on U.S. Highway 283 about one mile north of Cheyenne in Roger Mills County in western Oklahoma when he fell asleep, according to the accident report.
Last weekend, the Poteau Pirates had their annual red-white scrimmage at Costner Stadium. For the first time since the 2012 season finale against the Tulsa Rogers Ropers, the Pirates will see somebody else.
The Pirates will scrimmage the Heavener Wolves beginning at 6:30 tonight at Costner Stadium.
â€śI was thinking the other day,â€ť second-year Poteau coach Greg Werner said.
The Arkoma Mustangs will get a taste of Friday night-like game conditions when they entertain the Porum Panthers for a 6 p.m. scrimmage tonight at Mustang Field.
For the Mustangs, the game plan is clear for tonight's scrimmage.
â€śFor us, it's all about effort and being able to line up in the formations the right way,â€ť Arkoma coach Mark Weatherton said. â€śWe don't want to have any penalties. We're not going to do anything fancy. We want to see our kids block and tackle, and go hit somebody. We're pretty excited about going to hit somebody else and get a taste of [Friday night].â€ť
The Panama Razorbacks had their red-white interteam scrimmage on Saturday at George Ollie Stadium.
However, now they will get the chance to go against somebody else than themselves as the Hogs will welcome the Savanna Bulldogs to town for a 6 p.m. scrimmage tonight at George Ollie Stadium.
â€śWe finally get to beat around on somebody else,â€ť third-year Panama coach Brandon Ellis said. â€śPushing around our own guys gets old and boring. The kids are excited about it [tonight's scrimmage].â€ť
