Burl O. Griffith, 87, of Spiro died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012. Services were held Monday, Aug. 27, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro.
Verna Louise Durant, 74, of Poteau died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, in Tulsa.
Services wereÂ held Monday, Aug. 27, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, with burial in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.
Marcielle â€śSisâ€ť Babb Garner, 89, of Fayetteville,Â Ark., died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, in Fayetteville. She was born May 24, 1923, in Summerfield to Arthur Lee Babb and Savannah Mae (Sisk) Babb.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Eugene Garner.
The San Antonio based band The KLO:CKS took the stage at 8 p.m. Friday evening as part of the summer concert series "Under the Stars" held at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center Amphitheater.
The band filled the night air with rock and country tunes from all decades and it didn't take long before several people, young and old,had taken to the dance floor.
The Oklahoma band Ricochet is scheduled to perform in September as the closing event of the summer concert series.
During the regular meeting of the county commissioners a proclamation was singed declaring Sept. 5 as LeFlore County 911 Day.
The proclamation is in honor of the department's tenth anniversary. According to Randy Tolbert, director of 911, the department will host an open house on Sept. 5 open to the public. During the open house attendees will learn about the facility and the services they provide.

The final preseason tune-up scrimmage for the Poteau Pirates was a polar opposite in the styles of offense Thursday night at Costner Stadium. The Mena (Ark.) Bearcats are of the line and lineage of the Greenwood (Ark.) offensive attitude. Mena's coach was once the offensive coordinator there. On the other hand, the Pirates and their new offensive philosophy which is being slowly but surely infused is a hardcore, smashmouth football style, which is the way that Greg Werner, Poteau's new coach, likes it.
Two LeFlore County baseball teams have a chance at hardware as the 17th annual Carl Albert State College Fall Baseball Classic ends its three-day run today at CASC's Ival Goodman Field.
WHITESBORO â€” The Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team is two wins away from winning its own tournament.
The Bulldogs had no problem with handling the Pittsburg Panthers in an 18-0 victory Thursday night in the opening round of the Whitesboro Tournament.
The â€™Dogs (4-6) played Eagletown, a 10-9 thrilling, last-at-bat victory over Clayton, in the championship semifinals Friday night with the winner advancing to the title game at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
The loser will be in the third-place game at noon today.
