Lula Beatrice Cagle, 89, of Waldron, Ark., died Thursday, July 4, 2013. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 8, in the Dowden Funeral Home chapel in Heavener. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Heavener.
Bill J. Gibbens, 71, of Heavener died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Heavener. He was born Sept. 2, 1941, at Baxter Springs, Kan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a poultry farmer.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents Betty and Paul Harris.
Geraldine Lucille Cain, 86, of Heavener died Thursday, July 4 at Heavener. No service is planned at this time. Burial will be in Zion Memorial Park Cemetery, Canby, Ore.
Poteau First United Methodist Church will host the third annual Summer Music Camp the week of July 8-12.
The camp will take place daily from 9 a.m. to noon with a performance at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 12.
The camp is for students who have completed first grade up through high school.Â Students will learn and put together a musical production for the Friday night performance. They will be responsible for not only the music and drama, but also costume, stage and production design.
Volunteers and donations are helping to spruce up skateparks in Heavener and Poteau.
Two-State Sod Farm in Spiro donated sod for the Nashoba Skatepark in Heavener and Central National Bank donated bottled water to help keep the volunteers hydrated.
"Two State donated sod for the Skatepark Off Broadway in Poteau, too. We really appreciate them partnering with us to help our area youth," said Nashoba Youth Foundation Chairwoman Lisa Fabian.
The need for blood doesnâ€™t take a vacation. Yet, fewer people typically donate during the summer, according to Oklahoma Blood Institute.
Walmart in Poteau has stepped up to help with a blood drive from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Anyone who is healthy and 16 years or older* is encouraged to give.
Each donor will receive two free tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo, a â€śFeel Fierceâ€ť T-shirt, free health screenings and Donor Rewards points.

ARKOMA â€” After spending most his life in LeFlore County, Kinta boys basketball coach Shane Amos couldn't wait for the chance to return to coach in his neck of the woods. He got that chance.
Amos will coach the Arkoma Mustangs beginning the 2013-14 season.
â€śI've lived in Pocola for the last two years, so it [the Arkoma coaching job] was closer to home,â€ť Amos said. â€śI'm more familiar with this area. My wife and I have a little one on the way due in December. They say timing is everything. I can now spend more time with my family.â€ť
Registration is open for the 2013 LeFlore County Express Fall Soccer League.

The Poteau Area Recreational Complex will have the Men's ASA District Tournament July 12-13.
Entry fee is $175 per team. Deadline for entry is 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Teams must pay with cashier's check, money order, or cash. Cashier checks and money orders made out to the City of Poteau.
