I would like to applaud the Spiro School District and the citizens of Spiro for taking a step — a leap of faith — when they built their new gym. Spiro is preparing for bigger and better things down the road, plus they have been guaranteed the LeFlore County Tournament championship game again this season.
They are telling their players and future players that we expect you to win many basketball games in the future, and maybe even win a gold ball. So, we are going to build you a facility that says we are proud of you.
There will be a basketball tournament for grades three through six Friday and Saturday at the Spiro Gym.
The entry fee is $125 per team with a three-game guarantee.

The Boys and Girls Club of LeFlore County will have a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades three through six Dec. 3-4 at the Pansy Kidd Middle School Gym.
TULSA — For those who either watched on television or in person (as I did) the Tulsa Golden Hurricane's 59-17 rout of Marshall Satruday at a windy Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium, this team looks to be not only peaking at the right time, but is definitely set itself up for a Conference USA Western Division title showdown at 11 a.m. Nov. 25 at home with undefeated Houston — and possibly the C-USA Championship game (which could be here if Tulsa runs the table).
James and Lucinda Haskin were back in the courtroom Monday afternoon in an attempt to maintain ownership of their livestock, which were removed from their property after they were jailed for child neglect.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Razorbacks finished their regular season Saturday night at Razorback Stadium easily walloping the Tennessee Volunteers 49-7. With the win, the Hogs rose to No. 6 in the latest Bowl Championship Series poll after Oregon took care of Stanford and TCU shocked Boise State. With Mississippi State and No. 1 LSU left on the slate, the Razorbacks need to just take care of their own business, and let the chips fall where they may for the last two games.

The Department of Human
Services has confirmed that a
LeFlore County woman has
been placed on leave following
an investigation into her conduct
and allegations that she
misused state equipment.
On Nov. 2, PDN reported that
Barbette Hull of Poteau was
under investigation for allegedly
misusing state property by using
property belonging to DHS for
personal business.
“I can confirm that our Office
of Inspector General has conducted
an investigation into
these allegations against Mrs.
Hull,” said Sheree Powell, DHS

In remembrance of the men and women who gave their lives to protect the United States of America, the LeFlore County Disabled American Veterans and the Disabled American Veterans Auxillary, Chapter 63, held their annual Veterans Day Ceremony on the LeFlore County Courthouse lawn. The men and women of the DAV / DAVA placed flags atop the Veteran Memorial for each fallen member listed on the wall as their name was called out to the attending crowd.

ARKOMA — Arkoma High School football made history in this 2011 season. The Mustangs won the most-ever games (nine) and had a home playoff game for the first time in school history Friday night at Mustang Field.
The bad news for the Mustangs, ranked eighth in Class C, was that their opponent Friday night was Class C's sixth-ranked Covington-Douglas Wildcats — who only lost to top-ranked Deer Creek-Lamont and third-ranked Timberlake this season, and handled District C-4 champion Webbers Falls by 26 points.
