Jerry D. Hickman, 68, of Talihina died Wednesday, Oct.
19, 2011, at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2
p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2 p.m. at the New Talihina
Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Tammy Lou Bowers, 48, of Panama
died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, in Fort
Smith, Ark. Tammy was born Aug. 12,
1963, in El Paso, Texas, to Paul and
Audrey Opal (Eatmon) Bowers. She was
employed at the Panama Tote-A-Poke. She
was preceded in death by her father; sister,
Julie Emmert; and her grandparents, John
and Annie Dell Eatmon.
Survivors include her daughter, Emily Tedder of the
home; loving companion, Richie Tedder of Panama;
mother, Audrey Opal Bowers of Buck Creek; three sisters,
Ginger Esparza of Las Cruces, N.M., Pam Paul of Hackett,

October 29 from 10 a.m.
until 2 p.m.
A local family whose name is synonymous
to downtown Poteau recently sold
their last business that has forever been
known by the name of the man who
opened its doors 65 years ago.
Holton’s True Value Hardware has a
new owner and it’s one that intends to
continue the long-time practice of appreciating
hometown business and valued
customers.
F.L. Holton, Sr., the founder of Holton’s
Hardware, was, according to his family, a
naturally gifted horse and mule trader. In
1915, at the age of 26, he opened the
doors to his first business – a general merchandise

Perhaps the only people who gave the Poteau Pirates a chance against the No. 9-ranked Broken Bow Savages were the players and the coaches who were wearing red on the field. When it was all said and done, the Pirates upset the Savages 31-23 Thursday night at Costner Stadium on Senior Night.
POCOLA — The Panama Razorbacks took a big step in their football program Thursday night at John Carter Field, and may have knocked their archrival out of the playoffs. The Hogs got their first win of the season, and snapped a 17-game losing streak in the process, over their biggest rival, the Pocola Indians, by a score of 21-20 in a District 2A-6 game.
WEBBERS FALLS — The last two weeks, the Arkoma Mustangs played two of their best games of the season. Thursday night, it was just the opposite.
The Webbers Falls Warriors won the District C-4 showdown with the Mustangs 84-38 in a game called with just more than eight minutes left in the third quarter because of the mercy rule.
If there was a bright spot in the game, Tanner Steward set the school record in receptions in a game with 16 catches for 213 yards and three touchdowns.
BOKOSHE — The Bluejacket Chieftains came to town and left with a 60-14 victory over the Bokoshe Tigers Thursday night in a District C-4 contest.
VALLIANT — In a battle of Bulldogs in Thursday night's District 3A-8 contest, Valliant jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the opening half, then outscored Spiro 40-33 in a slugfest of a second half to prevail 61-33.
