Fishing is here; bow season is just around the corner

July 25, 2013

My boys and I have been hitting the lake on my boat in the last couple of weeks. We have caught several fish, and had one heck of a time.
Paula joined us last week on a trip to the Poteau River. We launched at Potts Landing at Wister Lake, and headed back up the river. The boys were catching fish left and right, and I was struggling to catch anything.
That all changed as the evening time drew near. We headed back to fish a stretch near the boat ramp. On my third cast, I hooked a three-pound, 12-ounce bass that gave me bragging rights for the day.

Storms cause damage overnight

July 24, 2013

High winds and torrential rains left their mark across LeFlore County early Wednesday morning.
Residents in Poteau woke up to trees blown over, roads covered in water and mud and roads that had partially washed away. Traffic along Whitney Avenue was condensed to one lane after the a large portion of the north side of the road took a slide into a creek. Amos Street was unpassable at the South McKenna intersection after a large tree fell across the road. City workers equipped with chainsaws, front-end loaders and a dump truck were out early clearing debris.
