Outdoor columnist scores with a bearded lady on recent hunt

May 2, 2013

Well, turkey season is in full swing, and I have a few more pictures of some successful hunters. I hope a few more will send me pictures and stories soon.
I fought off an illness all last week which even caused me to miss work one day, but I got to feeling a bit better by Saturday. Dan and Danny Carter joined me at my lease in Clayton for a camping trip to do some hunting.
Also joining the fun were Butch Parks, Carl Milligan and Brad Wells from up around Oklahoma City. My wife has been hounding me for several years to get her another turkey, and I finally got on the scoreboard.

The regional tournament will resume Friday, with the host Pirates meeting Broken Bow in the loser's bracket final at 2 p.m., with the winner meeting Byng at 4 p.m. for the regional title. If a second title game is needed, it will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.

If you look at the two teams in Tuesday night’s Class 4A playoff game at Costner Stadium between the Poteau Pirates and the Verdigris Cardinals, it would be a classic mismatch. Coming into the game, the Pirates had scored 86 goals and have only allowed six goals. Verdigris scored 42 goals and allowed 15 goals.
However, the Cardinals were running on adrenaline until midway through the second half. Class 4A’s top-ranked Pirates scored 10 minutes into the final half, and then held off the Cardinals for a 3-2 win.
